"It's none of your gods damned business," Thorn snapped. "I'm in the middle of something here." He stood up and reached up to rub goat's blood on his left hand onto the ship's carved prow before kneeling back down to begin butchering the goat.
"So. Banto, was it?" Thorkil asked. "You ever been a sailor before?"

"I have sailed a few times, sir," Banto replied, voice deep like rolling thunder. "Though I have spent most of my life in a sea made of sand, where dunes are waves and the ships are horses."

Alice stood and watched him for a moment, "It-I-ugh." She took a breath, "We are going to be on a boat together, I would like to know something about the people I'm sailing with." Alice looked down and kicked a pebble. "And do we get to eat that afterwards?" She asked about the goat.

"Well you don't get the right to bother anybody about things they don't want to tell you," Thorn said, continuing to butcher the goat. "You want to know something about me?" he asked. "What you need to know about me is I'm a seiðmaðr. A witch. And if you piss me off, I might send a nightmare after you, so you never rest easy again. I might cut you open and tell the future from your guts. Or I might curse you so everything you ever do is a painful, agonizing failure." He smiled at Alice, but it was the kind of smile that had entirely too much teeth and not enough crinkling around the eye to be comforting.
"Well then, this should be interesting," Thorkil said. He scowled as they approached the ship. "Thorn, are you terrorizing my crew?"

"Not terrorizing at all." Alice said and narrowed her eyes to slits, "Something you need to now about me, I'm different but that part is obvious, I'm not scared though, not of you or anyone." She grabbed a dagger that was hidden in her coat , "I'm not afraid to spill your guts either, I may not be able to tell the future from them though. I know how to make people suffer and beg to be killed, so you might not want to piss me off either." She said pressing the blade to his throat. (I'm so tired that after awhile I didn't even know what I was writing anymore so I'm sorry if this stinks )

Kareem's light-hearted mood darkened swiftly when he saw the loud girl whip out a knife and threaten Thorn. He was already behind her, so he grabbed her by the elbow and twisted her arm behind her. The knife dropped out of her hand, and almost as soon as it hit the ground, Aquila had darted forward and scooped it up. Kareem let go of Alice. "Is this how you treat every man who offers you a job?" he said, the condescension evident in his voice and his greenish eyes. "Is it how you lost your last one?"

Alice looked at the guy, "No, that's how I treat every guy who threatens me and I wasn't going to do anything to him anyways, I quit my last job and that's why I was looking for a new one." She said looking at the small girl with her knife with a glare that could kill then she looked back up again.

(psssst, Aquila is disguised as a boy, which is why Kareem calls her his little brother. She's going by the masculine form of her name, which is Aquil.)
Aquila met the tall girl's glare, her expression neutral. She held Alice's knife at her side, not willing to give it back until she was sure the young woman wasn't about to use it on someone. Whatever Alice claimed about her intentions, Aquila was reluctant to trust a woman who was clearly lacking in self-control. Aquila had never known a girl to behave in such a way. At home, it would not have been tolerated.

(Oh yeah, sorry, I forgot)
"Ok, can I have my dagger back?" Alice asked holding out her hand, her voice calm and collected. She narrowed her eyes again though, she wanted her dagger back but she also wanted to stab something with it.

Aquila hesitated, glancing to Kareem and then to Thorn, then down to the knife in her hands. Its straight blade was odd to her. Her own knife, tucked safely under her coat, was from back home, where daggers were curved. (Aquila and Kareem have awesome knives like this!)

(Oooh, pretty knives!) Thorn laughed. "You missed the entire point of what I was telling you," he told Alice. "Which was 'Leave me alone'. Okay?" He looked at Aquil and said, "You can give that back." He returned his seax to the sheath at his back. (A seax, fyi:)

Alice just looked at Thorn, "Then who else am going to bother?" She smiled a mischievous smile and still held her hand out for her dagger back.

Aquila nodded and returned the knife to Alice, hilt-first. Kareem gave Alice a final withering look and turned back to the longboat.

"Not my problem," Thorn said. He gathered up the meat and flounced onto the ship.
Thorkil rolled his eyes. "The next time anyone threatens another crew member with a knife, they're going overboard. Got it?" he asked, looking around at all of them.

Alice looked at the captain, "Can we just threaten them and lose the knife?" She asked as she put her dagger back in her coat.
