For thousands of years, the kingdom of Rharewin has been ruled by the Dragonbournes. But fifteen years ago a rebellion lead by Ceallach Ailero overthrew King Aerys Dragonbourne and crowned Cellach in his place. Since then, Rharewin has been peaceful. At least, on the outside. Within the capital city of Courtcliff, King Ceallach's hold on the throne has begun to slip, and other nobles have begun to scheme for the throne. And whispers from the east say that one Dragonbourne may still live. You guys all should know how to play nice by now (save murders for ic, ect.) And basically you can fill any role within the castle, from servant to royal. Have at! (Also map.)

I kind of borrowed my character from Game of Thrones and I'm not terribly sorry. (I changed him a lot but still.) Name: Viserys Dragonbourne Age: 20 Position: "The Beggar King," King Aerys' heir Height: 5'11" Past/Personality: Viserys was five when his father was overthrown and all his family killed. His mother fled with him to the east, though she died of illness not long after. Viserys has had to fend for himself since, and he's coming to reclaim a throne that he feels is rightfully his. He's stubborn, paranoid, and cunning but also has a strong sense of honor. Pic: Animal (optional) Name: Dragon Species/breed: New Forest Pony Age:7 Personality: Steady, reliable, but fiery enough to use in battle. Pic: Edited: 8/17/2012 7:15:43 PM by QHRider dddddddd Name: Ashliegh Shard Age: 17 Position: Servant Height: 6' 2" (I will go with my real height, although I always wanted to be short, lol) Past/Personality: A happy person, daughter of a warrior that died in battle. She work as a servant to help support the family. Pic: Animal (optional) Name: Reah Species/breed: horse Age: 50 Personality: Fiery and bold. Does not take no for an answer, unless the one in control of him is Ashleigh. Pic: Barn-Bum Name:Laila Victorian Age:18 Position:Princess Height:5'6'' Past/Personality:Laila loves to not obey orders. Several times she has rode with the army against her fathers orders. She is a great swordsman, one of the best and she has a temper. Pic: Animal (optional) Name:Rufio Species/breed:Friesan Age:3 Personality:Wild, fast, a free spirt Pic: Edited: 7/6/2012 7:43:26 PM by Barn-Bum On Par I'm still new at RPGs, so if any of this is taboo, etc, just let me know. And I'll unashamedly admit that I stole this character from Gerald Morris by mixing Terrence and Robin from A Squire's Tale. Name: Terrence Age: 22 Position: Bard, but that doesn't pay too well, so he's also a jack-of-all-trades fix it man who usually ends up sleeping in the stable. Height: 5'8" Past/Personality: Terrence grew up in the forest, far away from the politics in the castle. The change in ruling family had little to no effect on Terrence's life. I don't know how he wound up in the castle, but he's currently employed as a bard/fix it man, and can only afford a room in the castle every few months. He's made great friends with the stable hands and knows all the horses inside and out. Terrence's own animal familar is rarely with him in the castle, but Terrence and Puck can frequently be found outside the castle walls. Terrence has a disarming smile and an easygoing demeanor. He is positively useless in a brawl. Edit: Terrence is a remarkably skilled woodsman and is quite at home out of doors. Terrence never met his mother, and it's quite possible that he is not entirely human. Pic: later.. Animal (optional) Name: Puck Species/breed: Red Fox Age: two Personality: Puck is as mischevious as his species would imply, but fiercely loyal to Terrence. Puck is not a trained performing animal, but he and Terrence understand each other on a level that would impossible anywhere but a fairy tale. Pic: * Name: Cellach, err....king. Age: Early 40's Position: KING! Ha! Height: 6'0" Past/personality: Cellach is highly dominant. His presence can fill a room, and he has a voice like thunder. As a usurper himself, he lives in constant fear that someone is out to get the crown. This keeps him constantly on the defensive against his imaginary foes (or not so imaginary!), and works havoc on his nerves. These are the fears that haunt him at night. In the castle he is mean, cruel, and will stop at nothing to keep his crown. Pic: Sorry to everyone who likes Theoden....I do too, but I kept imagining that Cellach looks just like him. Edited: 7/19/2012 8:46:56 PM by On Par zeesgirl Ok, so I've never seen Game of Thrones, which I'm assuming has influenced this story line... so could I get just a bit more clarification on what the actual situation is? What are people going to be doing? I'll take at least one character, though. Just have to figure out who to use. QHRider zeesgirl (7/6/2012) ________________________________________ Ok, so I've never seen Game of Thrones, which I'm assuming has influenced this story line... so could I get just a bit more clarification on what the actual situation is? What are people going to be doing? It influenced it but I took it and ran off in a different direction, so it was more a springboard than anything else. It's basically old king wasn't super popular, people revolted, new king was put in, new king isn't doing such a hot job either, people are waiting to make a move on him now. I'm leaving it kind of vague so we have a lot of freedom when we actually start playing. People can be doing whatever they want; depends on how ambitious your character is, I suppose. zeesgirl Okay, I got all that, I just wasn't sure if we were going to get any more specfic guidelines. I guess where is everyone? At this castle? Just want to understand where we're putting everyone so they can actually interact with each other. This much freedom makes me anxious, lol. QHRider ^ Yeah, I figured it everyone's in the city/castle then they'd be close enough to interact. Sssh, freedom is fun! There is really no wrong way to do this, lol. On Par Can Courtcliffe (is that right?) be set up as a city with a castle in the middle or on one side? Maybe that's how it was meant to be, but I was thinking it was a castle in the middle of nowhere. Now I'm thinking like Hyrule City, but I don't think anybody else here is a Zelda fan.... dddddddd I love Zelda! I have played every game they came out with, lol! On Par Ah, then you'll get it. I'm thinking like Hyrule City was laid out in Twilight Princess. The city square with the castle walled off on one side of the square, with gates that could be shut. Anyway.... QHRider ^ Yeah I was thinking it would either be like that or the castle in the middle with the city around it. And as it's both the capital city and a port city, it's pretty freaking huge, lol. dddddddd Sounds awesome! E. Rider Name: Ilene Enrowen Age: 21 Position: Entertains (singing, playing music, telling stories) Height: 5'8 Past/Personality: Ilene is quiet, sweet, gentle, kind, extremely loyal, graceful, beautiful, and extremely talented. Pic: Be a dear and just imagine Ilene okay(; Animal (optional) Name: Noble Species/breed: Gypsy vanner/Ilene doesn't know what other breed but he's a cross Age: 5 Personality: Noble is......fiesty, gorgeous, loving, and likes staing at Jaime.... Pic: Edited: 10/4/2012 8:24:14 PM by E. Rider zeesgirl Name: Milo Ailero Age: 19 Position: Prince, but dishonored and presumed dead. Height: 5'10" Past/Personality: Milo is the son of the struggling king Ceallach. Three years ago, he was framed for theft by one of the king's rivals, hoping to hurt the name of Ceallach's only male heir. Milo figured out who was responsible and confronted him, and in the ensuing fight, accidentally killed him. Under pressure to look like a fair ruler, Ceallach sentenced Milo to death for murder, but for some reason, the executioner instead gave him the punishment for theft: he cut off his right hand, then lied and said that he had indeed killed the prince. After months of recovery from infection, Milo has spent the last three years outside the city learning to cope with his disability, but now he's returned to the city anonymously in search of the mysterious executioner who both maimed him and saved his life. Pic: He's olive skinned, dark eyed, and dark haired. He has interchangeable hooks and false hands for his missing hand. (So Milo is pretty much a mix of Prince Zuko and Gen from The Queen of Attolia.) Animal (optional) Name: Duff Species/breed: Dog Age: 9 Personality: Calm, obedient, but fiercely protective of Milo. Pic: zeesgirl Name: Enzi Age: 17 Position:travel companion/ partner-in-crime / friend (usually) of Milo Height: It varies Past/personality: Enzi is a changeling but not a very good one. She doesn't pay great attention to detail, so an observant person could recognize her as an impostor. She's not limited to humans-- she can become animals as well. She's super smart and creative, but disorganized and impulsive and tends not to take things as seriously as she should, so she often butts heads with Milo who takes things much too seriously. She has considerable mechanical talent and is mostly responsible for Milo's extensive collection of hooks and false hands. I haven't yet figured out how she ended up with Milo, but they've been traveling together for two years. pic: It varies, but she most often looks like this: CrazyHorseGirl1773 Made some MAJOR character changes. Name: Jaime Tallhart Age: 30 (Ha, he's the oldest) Position: Head of the city watch Height: 6'2 Past/Personality: Jaime has a reputation for not being particularly honorable. People don't really trust him, and everything he says is generally taken very seriously even if it's just a joke. He comes off as arrogant and amoral, but has recently found himself choosing to do the more honorable thing. When he starts something, he sees it to the end. Can be charming when he wants to be. Jaime was knighted at 15 and joined the city watch (basically a police force, it's pretty corrupt though) a few years later. He's extremely skilled in combat. Pic: He looks like a pirate in that picture. Weee, lack of creativity! Edited: 7/9/2012 5:54:15 PM by CrazyHorseGirl1773 On Par When can we start? I am eager to see how this will work. QHRider In his memory, Courtcliff was a huge city, bright and shining. But as he entered the city, Viserys was disappointed to see that it didn't quite live up to his memory. Sure, it was large, but it seemed far more crowded, far dirtier, than it had ever seemed as a child. His distinctive white blond hair covered under his hood, Viserys leaned down to stroke Dragon's neck. One of the pony's ears flicked back to him. "We're going to have a lot of work to do," Viserys said. On Par Can I get a pronunciation guide on your character's name? Terrence sat with his back to a boulder, watching the sun rise over the sea. The water shimmered and the clouds turned orange. He sighed contentedly, resting one hand on Puck. The fox lowered his head in response to Terrence's touch, and they sat together in the quiet dawn for some time. QHRider On Par (7/8/2012) ________________________________________ Can I get a pronunciation guide on your character's name? Vis-HEIR-iss dddddddd Ashleigh let Reah gallop. If she didn't she would be late again. Thank goodness the trip was only a mile. Ashleigh was a mysterious girl. No one quite felt that they knew her, still she was a happy and upbeat girl to be a servant in the castle. Reah's black coat was flesked with sweat, but the mare was actually wild. She was used to long gallops to keep away from the numerous people trying to capture her each day. Ashleigh pulled Reah to a stop and jumped off. She now had only to turn the next corner to reach the city, and going into the city while riding would put her horse in jeopardy. "Go on, now Reah. Meet me later." Kathi said to the mare. Then she walked into the city On Par QHRider (7/8/2012) ________________________________________ Vis-HEIR-iss Got it; thanks. That's much better than the way I was reading it. * Terrence stood and stretched. "Time to head back, boy," he said to Puck. The fox stared at Terrence, then rose with a yawn. He padded beside the slender boy as they made their way into the thick forest. Terrence didn't like to speak in the woods, lest he disturb the animals and trees. He and Puck walked with the forest, not through it. Over, around, under, and between, on a path that grew from the forest. Terrence was never lost in the woods, and Puck hated trails anyway. After an hour, they could see the castle through the trees. They picked their way to the clearing, where Puck flicked his tail and lept into a tree. He crossed his forepaws and watched Terrence trod to the city gates, then sauntered into the forest. zeesgirl ^^ Wait so is she Ashleigh or Kathi? Milo halted at the crest of the last hill before the city. Courtcliff. How long had it been since he'd set foot inside its walls? Twice his life had changed dramatically in that city-- first a transition from the son of a rough-and-tumble rebel leader to the son of a king. That was so long ago he could barely remember. He could barely remember the second change either, but that was because he'd been half dead when he left. One day a prince, the next a nameless, hopeless, one-handed teenager. "So what are we waiting for?" asked Enzi, interrupting his brooding thoughts. She knelt at his side to pet Duff. The old black dog wagged her tail. "Nothing," said Milo. "We're going in now." He looked down at Enzi, who was in her normal form: a teenage girl with coffee-brown skin, bright dark eyes, and wild curls. "Turn into someone who could pass as my sister, will you?" He looked back down at the city, where guards kept an eye on the people entering the walls. When he looked back at Enzi, her skin was several shades lighter, and her hair was dark brown and straight. He noticed that she'd also given herself only one hand. He frowned and poked her with his hook. She laughed and followed him down the hill toward the city. QHRider Though Viserys had never spent much time in the city itself, it wasn't hard to navigate. The closer to the castle you got, the bigger and grander the buildings became. Viserys stuck closer to the edges of the city. Though more dangerous, he was less likely to be recognized as a Dragonbourne by the ordinary folk. Besides, they were the ones he was interested in now. They'd know what was going on in the city and be more likely to tell an interested stranger. E. Rider Irene sat by the window in her tower of the castle. She peered down into the city. So many horses, so many people. When was the last time she had been in the city? She could barely remember. She plucked a note on the small lap size harp. It echoed throughout the room, nearly startling her. A misty wind blew her soft brown hair into her face. On Par Terrence strode jauntily into the servant's entrance. "Good morning, Emelda," he greeted the head cook, snatching a pastry behind his back. She laughed and waved him off. Whistling an upbeat tune, he passed through the kitchen, searching for Berun, the gruff old man that was in charge of keeping the castle mainentenced. "Bout time you showed up," Berun grumped. "Lady Irene has a leak in, in...well, there's a leak somewhere. Take care of it." He thrust a kit of tools at Terrence, who smiled broadly at him. "You just don't like girls," he needled the elder man. "I don't like anybody, now get out of here!" he harrumphed, shooing Terrence through the door and slamming it shut. Terrence chuckled and made his way to Lady Irene's quarters in the East tower. *Is it ok to add extra characters? She quickly brushed her long silky brown hair. She smoothed her dress and opened the curtains a little bit more to let more light into the room. A ray of sunlight landed on the floor. She walked over to it and felt the ray's warmth and the wind's gusty chill. Edited: 7/8/2012 5:53:49 PM by E. Rider On Par It was early in the day and Terrence had plenty of energy for goofing off. At the princess's door he stood up straight, snapped his feet together, and rapped on the wooden door, announcing in his best and loudest voice, "Terrence the handy-man here to fix Princess Irene's leaky, umm....leak," he finished lamely. He was still wearing a lopsided grin as Irene approached the door. E. Rider "Come in!" Irene called from the window seat. She set her harp down and stood up. Brown curls falling softly about her shoulders. Finally someone was here to fix the leak. On Par Terrence kicked open the door and rolled into the room, wrenches and tools flying everywhere. He crouched with a serious expression and reached for a tool. He promptly stood straight up with an indignant expression. "Those ghastly trolls have stolen all my tools!" he cried. zeesgirl ooc: Ok, I'm confused now... E.Rider, your form says Ilene, not Irene, and also that she's an entertainer, not a princess. Clarification, please? I just want to have things straight because Milo is supposedly a prince, and if Irene is a princess, they should be siblings, and Barn-bum's character would also be their sister, as she put down princess as well. It's cool if they're all siblings-- I just want to make sure I'll be writing things that make sense, lol. dddddddd ooc: it is Ashleigh. I must still be stuck in Vail Academy, lol! * Ashleigh ran through town and into the castle. She was servant to Princess Irene, and once again, she was late. Ashleigh's secrets were well hidden in the woods, in the city, not so much. Everyone knew her father had been a great warior under the previous king, and that he had taught Ashleigh to fight. Only a few people knew that the girl kept sword and dagger on her at all times. Ashleigh liked it that way. Ashleigh knocked on the door. "Princess Irene? I am sorry for the time. Please accept my greatest apologies." Ashleigh said, truly ashamed of her horrible punctuality. On Par Oops, my bad! I was being lazy and misread the name. I also forgot that Barn-Bum's character was the princess and not E.Rider's. ....I was confused about having a princess too. I guess it's back to Lady, and it'll be Ilene, not Irene! Sorry.... Barn-Bum Laila marched back to her chamber and put her armour away before anyone saw. There was a deep and nasty cut in her left shoulder that hurt. A pool of blood had already formed at her feet. Laila angrily threw a dager out the door she heard it sink into a tapestry. Now she would need medical attention, and she hated it. "One of you usless servants get in hear now!" Laila said fuming that a stupid guard had given her this injury. E. Rider ooc: Haha ok, sorry about the mistakes and confusion!! I had to check my form again cause I was getting confused too!! Ok, so it is Ilene, she is a Lady, and an entertainer! Alright, let's please proceed, and hopefully that cleared up some confusion!!! haha Oh, and Par, are you still fixing my leak?? I'll still RPG like you are so... Ilene sat back down on her window seat and began strumming her lyre as Terrence struggled to find lost tools and fix the leak. She heard a screaming voice. It must be the princess screaming at one of the servants. She often screamed at the servants. Ilene always made sure to preform her best for the Prince and Princess. Crossing her fingers that they would find her music enjoyable and not fire her. So far she hadn't been yelled at, but her father had been well known, so she had a good reputation. zeesgirl A steady flow of people was always entering the city at this time of morning, and the guards did not give Milo, Enzi, and Duff a second glance as they passed through the gates. Milo wove through the crowd, keeping his head down to avoid attention, even though he had changed enough in the last three years that the chances of someone recognizing him were practically nonexistent. He'd grown taller and leaner as he'd entered adulthood, and the past three years had aged his face beyond his nineteen years. Besides, he was supposed to be dead. He looked over his shoulder for Enzi, but realized she was no longer behind him. He scowled. Less than five minutes in Courtcliff and she'd already gotten into trouble. He glanced downward. Duff was still at his heels. The aging mutt was easily the more reliable of his two travel companions. He reached down and scratched her behind the ears. "Come on, girl, find Enzi." Duff gazed back at him with wide brown eyes, then turned and wandered into the crowd. Even when Enzi changed form, Duff could usually locate her by following her nose. Milo sighed and followed. On Par I guess it pays to pay attention! * Terrence squatted near the wash things, his chipper mood dampened by lack of reaction from Ilene. It seemed as if everyone in the castle put on a false face, and it was hard work to get them to actually let loose and laugh a little. That was one reason Terrence prefered the forest over the castle. But the forest didn't pay very well. He quickly located a gap in one of the pipe joints. He hammered it flat again and then daubed a bit of tar on the crack. He gathered his tools and faced Ilene. "The tar will need to dry and set into the crack before you can use the wash again. That'll take several hours, so wait until sundown to run any water." He bobbed his head stiffly and made for the door. dddddddd "I am so sorry princess. I did not mean to be late again. Please forgive me!" Ashleigh couln't believe that she had lowered herself to this. Begging like a peasant. Oh wait, I am a peasant now. Ashleigh wished she had never agreed to this job. I could've secretly become a warior, but no! mother would not allow such a thing. A young girl fighting in the army. However ture that was, Ashleigh still knew how to use a weapon, and was not afraid to if need be. ooc: so, who is the princess now? zeesgirl ^ Barn-Bum's character is the princess. E. Rider (7/8/2012) ________________________________________ Ilene always made sure to preform her best for the Prince and Princess. Crossing her fingers that they would find her music enjoyable and not fire her. So far she hadn't been yelled at, but her father had been well known, so she had a good reputation. ooc: Sorry to still be confusing, but the prince (Milo) is thought to be dead. He actually survived, but with a missing hand, and he's just returned to the city but no one knows he's there. Hooray complicated! lol QHRider Viserys swung off Dragon and lead his sorrel pony to an inn near the gate. "What d'you think?" he asked. Predictably, Dragon didn't answer, but Viserys was in the habit of talking to him. After turning Dragon over to a stableboy, Viserys joined the crowd in the common room and set to work finding out all the news he'd missed in the last several years. A group of slightly drunk guardsmen and women, pleased to have an audience, were soon telling him more than he'd ever wanted to know about anyone who'd so much as set foot in Courtcliff, as far as Viserys could tell. zeesgirl Duff led the way back through the busy street toward the sound of loud voices, halting at a small crowd made of off-duty guards and a few civilians. Milo spotted a head of dark curls standing at the back of the crowd. Enzi, back in her normal form. Milo grit his teeth and pushed his way over to her. "What are you doing?" he asked, seizing her arm with his left hand and pulling her away. Enzi jumped at his touch and then spun and shook him off. "I only stopped to listen," she said quietly. She nodded at the guards, who were gossiping enthusiastically while the small crowd looked on. "They're talking about what's happened in the city in the last few years." Milo stood straighter and turned his attention to the boisterous guards. He wondered if they would say anything about the executed prince, or if they would know anything about the supposed executioner. QHRider ^ ooc: are those my guards? They're my guards now. "But then you've heard about Prince Milo," one of the guardsmen said. When Viserys shook his head the man said, "Where have you been the past three years?" "Türük. What about Prince Milo?" Viserys pressed. "He got charged with theft, and then ended up murderin' the fellow that accused him of it." "Ah. So I assume he doesn't have a head anymore?" Viserys asked. Good. With the crown prince out of the way there would be a succession crisis in a few years anyway. "Well that's the interesting part, isn't it?" The guard grinned. "You're just doing this to me on purpose now," Viserys said. The guard leaned in. "Some folk say the prince ain't dead. That there weren't no body." "Really? Now there's an executioner who's terrible at his job." Dammit. If that were true then not only would he still have to deal with the prince, but he'd be nearly as desperate as Viserys to get the throne back. One problem at a time, Viserys thought. You aren't near ready to take the throne yet anyway. He brushed some of his hair out of his face, hoping there was enough road grit in it to make it appear a darker shade of blond. Barn-Bum ooc: I have always been Erider was just cofused. Im the only princess. Laila turned to the girl. "Does my cut look bad?" Laila asked before grabbing her dagger out of the wall. "Do not tell anyone about my cut please" Laila paused. "They shall have a fit if they found out that I rode with the army again..... dont tell anyone" Laila said quickly. dddddddd "Oh, no, princess! if you don't want me to tell others about your injury, then I won't!" Ashleigh was relieved. At least she wasn't going to dismiss her on the spot for being late. On Par As Terrence left the castle behind, his mood lightened a bit. The city was better than the castle anyday; the people were more...real. Even if neither could compare to being in the forest. Terrence could feel his heart beating faster and lighter; it was going to be a good day after all. He was practically bouncing down the street, reveling in just being alive, when something caught his eye. He turned down a side street toward the more nefarious part of Courtcliff and made his way to the small crowd he had seen. They appeared to be trying to talk about something quietly, but off duty guards with their heads full of beer were never good at being quiet. He mingled into the crowd and listened. E. Rider Ilene rose quickly, ” Oh, and Terrence, thank you for fixing the leak. And be sure to tell those wretched trolls to leave your tools alone! We' ll just see how they feel when they have leaks that need fixing and you dont have the tools!” She laughed softly and smiled genuinely, ” Thank one again, Sir, I shall tell the Prinvess good things about you. You did a fine job!” She always tried to help the people who worked in the castle by telling the Princess good things about them in hopes she would treat them a little better. ” Good day, sir.” Ilene curtsied slightly. Barn-Bum dddddddd (7/9/2012) ________________________________________ "Oh, no, princess! if you don't want me to tell others about your injury, then I won't!" Ashleigh was relieved. At least she wasn't going to dismiss her on the spot for being late. Laila rolled her eyes. "I asked you a question! Does it look bad?" S Barn-Bum Laila rolled her eyes. "Ya whatever, it hurts" She said sitting on her bed and wrapping her arm. "Can you take this dress and hand wash the blood out of it? Dont let anyone see you... oh and fetch Ilene Im in a mood and want something to cheer me up" She asked with less anger in her voice. Laila was sick of how this castle was run and had a brillant plan how to seize it. But she would others behind her dddddddd "Yes, princess." Ashleigh quickly left the room with the dress, being extra careful not to be noticed. After quickly cleaning it, she ran back up to the princess' room and knocked. "Princess, your dress is finished. Ilene is on her way. Is there anything else that I can do for you?" E. Rider Ilene entered the Princess' s bedroom and bowed, curls falling about her shoulders. ” Good day, your highness. I hope you are well.” Ilene smiled. She sat on a footstool and began plucking her lyre. Fingers gracefully plucking each note. She sang a soft but cheery song. Her voice was very beautiful and very soothing. zeesgirl ooc: Yeah, Qh, they were your guards Milo froze at the mention of his name, his fist clenched. He'd heard the story of his "execution" told before, but usually by people who felt sure that the punishment had been carried out as ordered. So not everyone assumed he was dead. He would need to be careful. At least the guard didn't mention anything about a severed hand. If people in Courtcliff had known about that, it would be a lot harder to blend in here than Milo had thought. He flinched when Enzi pinched his arm. He glared at her. "What?" She shrugged. "You were staring at him." CrazyHorseGirl1773 (I switched characters.) Jaime dodged through the crowded street after a thief. Shoving past a group of people, he ducked into an alley. The boy was no more than a few yards ahead of him, and Jaime's long strides allowed him to quickly intercept the child. He caught the thief by the wrist, and said, "You know the penalty of stealing, don't you boy?" The child responded with a defiantly clenched jaw, though terror filled his eyes. He was young, no more then seven or eight years of age, but already a deft thief from what Jaime had seen. He took a step back to further examine the little criminal. He was thin, with sunken cheeks and dark circles under his eyes, obviously malnourished. Jaime looked to what the boy had taken, a small lemon tart. He met the boy's eyes again, then released the boy with a shove. He sighed. "Go on. Get out of here!" Jaime shook his head, didn't he have better things to do then chase down starving children? He left the alley just as a few of his men caught up to him. "I lost the little rat in the crowd," Jaime lied. He strode down the street again, passing an inn where a group of drunken guardsmen were making a ruckus about executed prince. He rolled his eyes, but paused to listen. QHRider The guardsmen grinned at Viserys' comment. "Well he ain't the only one. They say the old king's younger son's still alive in the east." Viserys tried not to react over much to that. Another guard said, "Well unless he can get an army I don't figure anyone has to worry much about him." The first guard glanced over at Viserys. "You were over east. You ever meet Prince Viserys?" "The east's a big place," Viserys said. "Over there they call him the Beggar King." The guards laughed. The Beggar King. Viserys hated the name, but it was true. He could call himself what he liked, but he was really no more than a beggar. On Par Terrence listened closely to the conversation. Politics weren't talked about much in Courtcliffe, since just talking couldn't fix anything, and starting a rebellion was generally frowned upon. He didn't know much about the old king at all, since he'd been living in the deep woods at that time. A thought struck him; a crowd was a perfect place to shout some questions. Forests of people weren't much more difficult to hide in than forests of trees, and his medium height made it easy to blend in and relocate after shouting. "I wish the old king would come back," he said, loud enough for the guards and the dirty foreigner to hear. He quickly sank into the crowd and joined them in looking for the 'source' of the voice. Barn-Bum Laila nodded at Ashleigh and relaxed to the music. After a little Laila even started singing her voice soft and beautiful, not as good as Ilene but pretty close. QHRider Viserys bit his lip to hide his smile at the sudden call. He didn't have to hide it after one of the guards said, "You'd have a hard time of that. They had ol' Aerys' head on a pike until the crows ate 'im." So that's what had become of his father. "And they did the same t' his older boy. Unless the Beggar King begs hisself an army there isn't likely t' be a Dragonbourne on the throne ever again." CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime quirked an eyebrow up at the outburst from a man in the crowd. Now this was getting interesting. He shooed away his men and slipped into the pub, trying to remain inconspicuous. The general public was not too fond of him and would probably not be to outspoken with a knight of the city watch listening in and he wanted to hear this conversation, so he did his best to blend in.

On Par Terrence knew he was playing a dangerous game, but he wasn't overly concerned. If he was found out and taken seriously, it would only result in a flight to the woods, where he'd have to stay for a month or two. No one could catch Terrence in the woods. He lowered his voice an octave, "The kingdom's gone to pot. Maybe a beggar king would be better than this one." He shifted position slightly and made a few comments to the woman next to him about the 'bold fool.' CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime had to chuckle at the man in the crowd, what a fool. His comment about the kingdom going to pot was not untrue, and Jaime thought back to the starving boy he'd spared just moments ago. The entire city was starving, save the high born lords and ladies who had no worries except for the next tourney champion and who was being forced to marry whom. He grimaced when he realized that most people probably thought of him as one of those spoiled lords. Jaime had never paid much attention to politics, but even he knew that the small folk of the kingdom were getting tired of the mistreatment. Most were too afraid to say anything, and with good reason, you never knew who was lurking around the corner in these cities. He knew that the King had eyes and ears everywhere. Edited: 7/9/2012 6:49:13 PM by CrazyHorseGirl1773 zeesgirl Milo fought back a shudder. The old king's head on the wall was one of his earliest memories, and it was not a pleasant one. He remembered wondering why on earth his father wanted to be king when that could be the result. Then, as peace led the city to prosper, Milo recalled being proud of his father the rebel king and proud to be his son, the prince. As he grew older and less naive, he had realized there were still plenty of problems in Courtcliff, and the idea of eventually assuming the throne began to lose its allure and made him feel queasy. Now, after his long absence, he wasn't sure of his own ambitions. For now, at least, his primary interest was finding his executioner and learning why he had been spared, if being granted the life he'd lived the last few years could be considered mercy at all. Thoughts of the throne were secondary. This talk of a still-living Dragonbourne prince was interesting. He'd heard rumors of the Beggar King during his travels. He wondered how far fetched these stories were. The hooded stranger's evasive answer hadn't given much away. Maybe the Beggar King was out there somewhere. QHRider Viserys wanted to grin as everyone began debating the relative merits of his father's, Cellach's, and his proposed reigns. Most seemed to favor the idea of a new king, though no one said as much aloud. "Seems there's a big difference between winning a kingdom and ruling one," Viserys commented to no one in particular. CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime watched in amusement as the crowd bickered. That bickering soon turned to a full on argument. Jaime grinned, the situation was becoming more tense by the second, one shove could set off the entire bar. It would not be the responsible thing to do, nor the "honorable" but why bother with honor if no one recognized him for it? He'd behaved himself for far too long, and he was just itching for a good fight. So he grabbed a man by the front of his tunic and threw him into another man, sending them both tumbling to the ground. He cackled as the two stood back up and began yelling and shoving drunkenly at each other, others soon began to join in. E. Rider E. Rider (7/9/2012) ________________________________________ Ilene entered the Princess' s bedroom and bowed, curls falling about her shoulders. ” Good day, your highness. I hope you are well.” Ilene smiled. She sat on a footstool and began plucking her lyre. Fingers gracefully plucking each note. She sang a soft but cheery song. Her voice was very beautiful and very soothing. For Barn-Bum E. Rider Ilene continued playing and singing. Soothing words and tunes passing between her lips. She closed her eyes as she sang, soothing herself and remembering her father and thinking of the mother she had never known. Barn-Bum Laila signaled for the music to stop. She crossed her legs. "Ilene do you like the king?" Laila asked grabbing a hair brush and brushing her wavy blonde hair. "Answer truthfully" She added. CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime laughed again as the entire bar erupted into a brawl. As a man approached him, Jaime punched him in the nose and was rewarded with a satisfying crunch as it broke. He threw a few more punches and took just as many, but he grinned like a mad man through it all, getting drunk off the adrenaline. E. Rider Ilene stopped playing. She looked suprised. She hadn't expected the question and she never really thought about it. "I-I-" she stuttered, "I don't really know. I don't pay much attention to what goes on outside of the castle or what the King does...I hardly ever see him since he likes Michael the Jester much better than a simple lyre player like myself. I stay in my tower mostly..." she seemed embarassed by her answer but she didn't know truly. Everything she said was true. QHRider Part of Viserys wanted very much to let the brawl go on--it kind of looked like fun. But he knew it wouldn't stay that way long. "Hey! Quit it!" he yelled. No one paid him much attention. "I said, QUIT IT!" he bellowed, in the sort of voice meant for carrying over the shouts and clash of a battlefield. "By the gods, I thought civilized men lived in Rharewin." CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime turned at the cloaked man's yell, and laughed in his face. He wiped the blood away from his split lip. "There is no such thing as a civilized man." zeesgirl Milo ducked under a swinging fist as the brawl erupted. He automatically forced himself between Enzi and the group, shielding her from the sudden chaos. He tried to steer her out of the crowd, but felt her shoulder twitch and then grow under his hand as she changed form. "Enzi, no!" he said hoarsely, but Enzi, now a man who could pass easily as an off-duty guard, shrugged Milo off and disappeared into the fight. Milo cursed and then looked around, hoping that in the confusion, no one had noticed the curly-haired, dark-skinned girl transform into a burly man. He and Enzi had agreed before they made this trip into the city that they would keep a low profile. With as rare changelings were, transforming in public would cause a stir if someone noticed. Why did she do things like this? Barn-Bum Laila fingered her dagger in her hand. "Oh Ilene" She said crossing the room and sitting down on the floor, crossing her legs. "You can help me" Laila said smiling with a hint of evil. "Lady Ilene, help me, please" QHRider "Apparently not," Viserys said. "But I see not point in risking injury in a brawl against those who are not your enemy. It's stupidity." The man had at least ten years on Viserys, and was wearing a badge that Viserys still recognized. "And as a man of the city watch, isn't it your duty to stop fights, instead of participate in them?" If men like this were in charge of groups like the city watch, then it was no wonder the kingdom was in such bad shape. zeesgirl Milo ground his teeth in frustration. No one seemed to have noticed Enzi's transformation, but she was still missing. He hadn't gotten a good look at her new form's face. He could hardly look for her in this madness. He heard someone shout for a halt to the brawl, but to no avail. Milo dodged as a man was sent flying past him, but stepped on another drunkard who had fallen to the floor. "Oi!" the man yelled and seized Milo by the ankle. Milo tried unsuccessfully to shake him off and lost his balance. A stranger in front of him shoved him backwards. Unable to regain his footing, Milo slammed backwards into the hooded Easterner. CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime sobered at the mention of the City Watch. He eyed the stranger, who didn't seem to be a stranger at all. Something about him was eerily familiar, he cocked his head to one side trying to think of what it was. He knew he didn't know the younger man. He shook the thought away as he remembered exactly where he was, in the middle of a fight. He was about to reply when the stranger was slammed into from behind. Jaime stepped out of the way as the hooded figure stumbled forward. QHRider Focused on the watchman, Viserys was caught off-guard and almost fell to the floor before he caught himself. He grabbed the stranger who had tumbled into him by the shoulders so that he could regain his balance. This was not how he'd been planning on spending the day. "You okay?" he asked the stranger. (Viserys is not amused.) zeesgirl Milo managed to wrestle his ankle from the drunk on the floor and stand up straight. He found himself looking into the face of the pale stranger. "Yeah," he said. "Sorry." QHRider Something about the dark stranger seemed very familiar to Viserys, but he knew he'd never met him before. Instead of worrying about it, he turned to survey the fight. "This is a disaster," he said, disappointed. Maybe the watchman was right. Maybe there were no civilized men. Barn-Bum Bump. Just making sure you see it tomorrow since its a page behind. E. "Oh Ilene" She said crossing the room and sitting down on the floor, crossing her legs. "You can help me" Laila said smiling with a hint of evil. "Lady Ilene, help me, please" Ilene looked confused and weary, but anything for her highness....right? Ilene swallowed, "Whatever you wish, Your Highness. What would you like me to do?" By the look on Laela's face Ilene was scared of what she was going to say. On Par As soon as the first punch was thrown, Terrence had slipped out of the crowd and into the next shop, listening to the sounds of the brawl. Standing five foot ten and weighing right at 150, Terrence did not enjoy fights. He waited, making small talk with the keeper, until he heard the shout next door. Nobody shouts like that around here, Terrence thought, as he had heard most everybody shout at one time or another. His interest aroused, he left the fabric shop and entered the dimly lit bar. He quickly slipped behind a few casks, hoping no one had noticed his entry. zeesgirl QHRider (7/9/2012) ________________________________________ Something about the dark stranger seemed very familiar to Viserys, but he knew he'd never met him before. Instead of worrying about it, he turned to survey the fight. "This is a disaster," he said, disappointed. Maybe the watchman was right. Maybe there were no civilized men. Milo noticed the stranger give him a strange look, but relaxed when he looked away. "Indeed," said Milo, scanning the crowd himself for someone who might be Enzi. When a man came stumbling up to them, fists flying, Milo sidestepped to avoid him, then hooked the man by his collar and landed a hard uppercut in his gut, knocking the wind out of him. The man backed away, gasping, and collapsed onto a bar stool to catch his breath. He glared back at Milo, but Duff planted herself in front of him, teeth bared and hackles raised. The man looked at the large black dog and thought better of continuing to fight. He instead turned back toward the bar and ordered a drink. "Good riddance," Milo said under his breath, then looked around. Where on earth had Enzi gone? (ooc: why are there this many drunkards in the morning? lol) CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime nodded in appreciation at the skill of the darker skinned man. He glanced around the room, smirking at the mess he'd made. A good bar fight had been just what he'd needed, he had been getting way too tense. He had recently become Commander of the City Watch, which had turned out to be much tougher than he'd originally anticipated. He'd been a member of the Watch for a long time, nearly half his life, but he'd never had to deal with the King before. The more he saw of the King, the more he misliked him. His opinion of the King's remaining children was no better, but he'd never had the chance to meet the prince before he was executed. Ceallach used the City Watch to carry out his dirty work, such as murdering his council members. Jaime had almost forgotten what it was like to carry out actual justice. He sighed, and turned back to the two strangers. Barn-Bum Laila smiled. "Ilene your job is to get close to him, you see I would do it myself but the king is weary of me, he thinks I will steal the throne right out from under him. Now Ilene do get close to the king and the heir to the throne, tell me there weaknesses!" Laila said sitting back down on her bed. "I will pay you in riches, oh and it would be a tradegy if someone found out, I do hope you are smart Ilene....... or you know" Laila pressed her dagger to her own throat. Then she winked at Ilene. "Is that agreed?" ooc: Herro would anyone like to play the king? Or shall I just kill him off? Hehe the princess has no limits On Par There were two strangers now, not just one, and Terrence watched them with interest. Oh, and a watchman. The head watchman, Terrence noted, seeing the pendant on the man's chest. He had probably started the brawl, although Terrence himself would share some, if not most, of the blame. A dull glint turned Terrence's attention to the second stranger. This man had a hook instead of a right hand, marking him a theif. Terrence wondered how many men it had taken to bring this man to justice, considering that he probably fought even better when he had both his hands. The hook handed man seemed to be searching for something in the tangled crowd. Terrence decided this might be a good time to let himself be seen, as the brawl was dying down. It was convenient being so slight of build, as he could pass for a young boy if necessary. He stepped from his hiding place and approached the three men, sidestepping around the drunk that had been so neatly dispatched by Hook. "Did you lose something, sir?" he asked the second stranger. "Perhaps I could assist you in finding it." dddddddd Ashleigh crept down the long corridor. The training hour was done, she was free to go untill the Princess summoned her, which she would likely hear without being told. She came to the door, and slipped in, careful that know one would see her. She was in the soldier's training room, the fighting place. Ashleigh put on the belt she kept hidden her, and added her daggger and sword. Now she could do what she had been waiting for all day. Practice fighting. Ashleigh disliked the current king. She could not share this with anyone. She worked for the most powerful person here right now. But that will change. Ashleigh thought. When the Beggar King returns. Yes, I may be but one of the few people who believe he is still alive, but small numbers with secrecy can overthrow a larger number. QHRider The watchman had turned his attention back to Viserys and the one handed stranger. Viserys hoped he didn't look at him too closely again, or that the lighting was poor enough that the exact shade of his eyes was hard to tell. The watchman was old enough to remember that purple eyes were common in the Dragonbourne family, as was white blond hair. But as a small man--or was he only a boy?--questioned the other stranger, Viserys turned away from the watchman. zeesgirl (7/9/2012) ________________________________________ (ooc: why are there this many drunkards in the morning? lol) They have nothing better to do? Lol. E. Rider Ilene looked down at her lyre. She didnt want the princess to see the scared look in her eye. She hated being deceitful towards people, Ilene was too kind and gentle for such things. But if the princess wanted it then it would have to be done. ” Wh-what do you mean get close? You mean....make him fall in love with me?” She looked at the princess. She never liked flirts, and she certainly didnt want to be one, but maybe she could do it without being flirty. She sighed, ” Ill do it. Ill try my best your highness.” She would miss being a quiet gentle lyre player, but completely changing her personality would be better than being killed. zeesgirl On Par (7/10/2012) ________________________________________ He stepped from his hiding place and approached the three men, sidestepping around the drunk that had been so neatly dispatched by Hook. Milo turned to face the newcomer, a young man of narrow build who looked to be anywhere from several years younger than Milo to a few years older. "I seem to have misplaced a friend of mine," said Milo, after a moment of hesitation. He looked down at Duff. The old shepherd mutt sat at his feet, still eyeing the man at the bar. Milo rested his hand on her head and looked back at the man. "But my friend is a hard person to find."

On Par
"Ah yes," Terrence said, leaning down to scratch the mutt behind the ears. "But unless your friend is a drunken guard, I don't think he'll be that difficult to sort out of this rabble." He stood up quickly and surveyed the damage. Most everyone in the room had a black eye, some of them had two, and there were a few broken noses and several busted lips. Beyond that, no one seemed to have any broken limbs or anything really serious. Just a good brawl, he supposed, though in his mind there was no such thing.
zeesgirl
Milo shook his head. "Not this friend." He had no idea what Enzi would even look like when she turned up, or why she had slipped away during the fight. "But this happens all the time." He sighed. "Thanks for the offer, though."
On Par
Terrence didn't respond. The watchman and the hooded stranger still seemed to be engaged in a nervous staring contest, and the assorted rabble was picking themselves up off the floor and nursing bruised faces. This was a good time to leave. He gave the mutt a last scratch, nodded to Hook, and slipped out the door. He went into the shop across the street and busied himself talking about castle life with the woman in charge, keeping an eye on the bar.
Barn-Bum
Laila smiled. "What a smart girl, I knew it was a good idea trusting you," Laila put the dagger away. "Now Ilene, do tell, I have heard stories" Laila paused dramatically. "That the beggar king is back...... do you think thats true?'' Laila asked already forming a plan in her mind for Asheleigh. "Hmm?" She said smiling with a hint of evil. SHe could see it in her hand. The throne. Now she just had to move her final chest pieces.
E. Rider
Ilene forced a smile. On the inside she was still trying to let the idea soak in. ” I dont know. I try to avoid gossip, rumors, and listening to conversations...but it appears I will have to do it from now on..” She swallowed. What was she agreeing to? She glanced at where the princess had put her dagger and at the princess's eager face. ” Well....tell me all that you want me to do, how to do it, when to do it, and how im supposed to make the king fall in love with me. And also I cant tell you the last time I even saw the king. He likes the jested better than me playing the lyre......I guess what I mean is how am I going to get noticed by him if I havent seen him in so long.”
Barn-Bum
"Well then do something the king likes" Laila insisted. She could tell Ilene was trying to wiggle out of this. "Oh and please honey don't tell me you don't know how flirt." Laila said smiling at Ilene. What a sweet innocent face. "Starting tomorrow you will find the king hook him somehow and squeeze some information out of him. I dont expect this task to take long. Only a couple days or so perhaps four at the shortest" Laila said hoping for the girls life she got the message. "So if that is all the nonsense questions you have please do leave my chambers, Im tired of talking, on your way back to your tower send up my servant whats her name!" Laila said pinning up her hair. "And remember Ilene sshhhhh....." She said winking and pressing a finger to her lips.
zeesgirl
*edit* I may have, um, gone a little overboard, lol.
After the stranger left, Milo knelt down next to Duff. "Alright old girl, let's find Enzi again," he said, somewhat apologetically. The poor dog. The "find Enzi" command was probably getting old. But Duff wagged her tail, put her nose to the ground, and wandered off through the bar. Milo watched her progress and then followed as she led the way out the door. Back on the narrow street, he followed the dog past an old woman sitting underneath the bar window, begging for spare change from people on the street. To his surprise, the woman reached out and snatched at his clothes. "A penny for a poor old woman?" she croaked. "I'm sorry, but I have nothing." Milo pulled away gently, but she clung to him, her fingers like a vice. "Come now, not even a bite to eat?" the woman persisted. She looked at his right arm. "From one cripple to another?" Milo yanked himself free. "No!" He stalked off down the street before noticing that Duff was not following at his heels. He turned back and saw that the old dog was lying at the beggar's side. "Are you incapable of going an hour without mocking me?" he asked as he returned and joined the woman outside the bar. "Someone has to," Enzi said. "Someone has to remind me why I tolerate you." Milo rested his hook on the dog sprawled between them. "Duff and I could get along without you." The old woman grinned a toothless smile. "I can remind you." Enzi looked around to double check that there was no one close enough to overhear their conversation. "Your executioner is still alive, but was imprisoned for failing to produce your body when it was demanded. He escaped from prison a year ago and is rumored to be the leader of an underground group of rebels here in the city, said to be loyal to the Dragonbournes." Milo's eyes widened. This raised so many questions. "What... how... How the hell did you find that out in the last fifteen minutes?" The old woman cackled. "I'm almost as useful as Duff."

QHRider Seeing that the bar had become rather useless for more information gathering, Viserys made his way outside, intending to find another place, when he saw the hook-handed man from the bar on a bench with an old beggar woman. He walked past without stopping, until he heard a fraction of the conversation. "... rumored to be the leader of an underground group of rebels here in the city, said to be loyal to the Dragonbournes." It took every ounce of self-control not to stop dead in the street. Instead Viserys kept walking until he could turn down a side street and, very carefully, make his way back into earshot of the two, out of sight. dddddddd Ashleigh heard someone calling her name. She quickly replaced the things, and snuck(sneaked?) out the back way. Then she ran up the corridor from the kitchen. "Oh, Ilene, it's you!" Ashleigh had been desperately hoping that it was anyone but the princess chasing after her."Are you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost!" E. Rider Ilene stuttered, "I-I'm fine." she said trying to brighten her face with a smile. "The Princess told me to tell you she wants you again." Barn-Bum Laila frowned. If she arranged it then would the king be suspicous.... "Asheleigh!" She called. E. Rider Ilene mozied back to her tower. Stopping ever now and then to greet the servants. She slapped her forhead, she had completely forgotten to tell the Princess good things about Terrence. She must remember to tell her next time. She wondered what the King would be like. If he would like her. CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime looked back over the destroyed room, the brawl had pretty much fizzled out. He sighed, that meant it was time for him to get back to work. He strolled out of the inn and towards the castle. He'd been on his way there that morning when he'd gotten sidetracked by the thief. QHRider Viserys was torn. On the one hand, he had no idea who this hook-handed stranger was, or if he was looking for this group for reasons that would align with his own. On the other hand, two--three--people looking for this group together would have more luck than he would on his own. He swallowed. He hadn't come this far to hide in the shadows forever. Stepping out into the open Viserys said, "Forgive me for eavesdropping, but if you could use another pair of eyes and ears on your search, I would be willing to help." E. Rider Ilene put her lyre in her tower then walked to the courtyard to admire the pretty flowers. As she walked to long rows of flowers she wondered how the Princess would arrange the meeting with the King. CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime made his way to the castle fairly quickly. His years in the city had allowed him to find some shortcuts back to the castle. He spotted Ilene as he entered the courtyard. "Yes, your highness? Ilene told me you had summoned me. What can I help you with?" Ashleigh was confused. The princess rarely summoned her at this time of day. What could she want?

His years in the city had allowed him to find some shortcuts back to the castle. He spotted Ilene as he entered the courtyard. "Lady Ilene," He called with a charming smile, "You're looking well." Ilene smiled and curtsied, "Good day, Sir Jaime. I am doing much better on the outside than on the inside I suppose." she fingered a soft brown curl. "A-and you are doing well I hope?" she asked smiling as she bent to sniff a flower. She picked a lovely red flower and stood up. She sniffed it before twirling it in between her fingers carefully. Then she plucked some of the stem off before putting the flower in her hair.

On Par Terrence entered the forest and whistled a quick tune to alert Puck that he was here. While Puck was not a trained animal, he was extremely smart and he liked Terrence. That was all that was necessary for companionship. The slight lad was still trying to make sense of all that had happened today. He ruled out the leaky faucet from his important facts. But that was the only mundane occurrence so far. First, a stranger from the east, asking questions about politics. Second, another stranger - Hook, the theif. Third, a fight, and a dishonorable watchman.
But it was the fourth fact that confused him the most. It was quite obvious that Hook had found his friend, or rather, the dog had, and he hadn't recognized her at first. That was odd. It was also odd that Terrence hadn't noticed an old beggar woman in the bar, where Hook had claimed to have lost her. Odder still, the second stranger seemed to have formed an alliance, at least a temporary one, with Hook. Terrence grinned. The phrase "Cloak and dagger" seemed to have taken on a new irony.
Puck nosed Terrence's hand, causing him to start. The fox was extremely quiet already, but Terrence had been lost in his thoughts and hadn't heard him arrive. I think, Puck, Terrence thought, looking into his amber eyes, that there are changes coming to Rharewin.

Milo caught the ring and looked at it. It was a seal ring. Milo froze. It was the Dragonbourne seal. He looked up at the pale stranger, with his locks of blonde hair just visible under the hood, and then back down at the ring. Could this really mean what it seemed to mean? Enzi used Milo's still-outstretched right arm to pull herself to her feet. Milo showed the ring to her. Enzi, unfamiliar with Courtcliff and its previous ruling family, did not recognize the significance of the seal. "A dragon?" she asked uncertainly. "A Dragonbourne," Milo said, without taking his eyes off the stranger. "This is yours?"
QHRider
"It was my father's," Viserys said. "But since Cellach put his head on a pike, I suppose it is now." Do not lose this. Viserys could still hear his father's voice, the last time he ever saw him, the last time he'd been in Courtcliff. You'll need it someday. Losing it had never been a problem; the temptation to sell it to feed himself had though. Viserys held his hand out for the ring. "If you don't mind."
zeesgirl Milo flipped the ring into the air and caught it on the end of his hook. "The Beggar King, eh?" He studied the seal for a moment longer and then, with a flick of his wrist, tossed the ring back to the Dragonbourne heir. "Well then, it makes sense that you should want to find this man as much as I do. Your help would be welcome."
QHRider Catching the ring, Viserys made a face. "Do me a favor and don't call me that." Viserys replaced the ring around his neck, where his shirt and tunic hid it. "My name's Viserys. And yours?" He looked from the hook-haned man to the old woman to the dog. He'd had stranger companions before, but he couldn't recall them at the moment.

"Less well now that I know a lovey lady such as yourself is in trouble," Jaime said as he strolled up to Ilene and gently plucked the flower from behind her ear. He examined it for a moment before tucking it back into place. "What's on your mind, M'lady?"
(Jaime. Down boy. Down.)

"Your highness, I know only the history of events. I was not working in the palace at the time. I am just not exactly sure what information you want from me." Ashleigh really didn't know very much about it, except wht her father had told her, but to tell that would be to reveal that she was the daughter of a warrior who had faught and died for the Dragonbournes. Oh, what will I do?

Pages 267 to 277 QH Viserys pursed his lips, but Jaime, unfortunately, did have a point. "I will punch you later, then," he said. He returned his attention to the others. "Whether or not Cellach sent them, we have to assume the worst. In this case, that he's looking for us, and that someone else is too, and a third party wants us at eachother's throats so they can come in after we've hammered away at eachother. And my first thought would be Laila." (I wish Barn-Bum still posted on this maaaaan.) Triple My Gold Brynn was growing frantic now. "Brother Wight!" she nearly yelled at the water, hoping that he was just away, that something hadn't happened to him. She was about to walk away when an image formed in the water, but it wasn't Brother Wight. "Brother Romulus?" Brynn said incredulously. "Where...where is Brother Wight?" "Brother Wight is, how shall I put it...unable to make it," said the soft, almost greasy-sounding voice of Brother Romulus from the water. Brynn felt herself growing angry and frustrated, and she did not like Romulus's tone of voice nor the look on his face. "What have you done with Brother Wight?" she demanded. Brother Romulus smirked. "That is none of your concern, Lateflower." Brynn noticed that he had left off the customary, respectful title. "He will be dead soon enough, then the plan can continue." Brynn's eyes grew dangerous, seeming to glow like coals. "Plan? What plan?" "Of course you must have guessed, child," Romulus said condescendingly. "Did you really think we sent you because you were the most gifted? We needed someone expendable to find the Dragonbourne, someone who would not be a major loss if they were...accidentally...destroyed along with the prince." Brynn opened her mouth angrily, but before she could get any words out, Romulus had disappeared. She gave an angry, frustrated yell and threw a massive fireball into the water, hoping that perhaps the connection hadn't been broken just yet and maybe she would hit Romulus. A loud hissing noise emerged from the trough, and soon Brynn's world was obscured by steam. (sorry for the novel, guys) dddddddd "I think right now we all need some rest. We will be safe here, and we will think more clearly in the morning." (who can take over Laila? She would be perfect for this!) CrazyHorseGirl1773 (I think TMG just took care of it.) Jaime whipped around at Brynn's shout, just in time to see her engulfed in steam. He ran over, and pulled her up and away from the water. "What happened?!" He asked her. E. Rider "Brynn!" Peatir said panicking on the inside. He half ran to where Jaime had her, "Brynn, are you alright?" he asked looking into her Amber eyes. Ilene sat on a haystack behind where everyone was talking. Before she knew it she sat sleeping, her head against the barn wall. QHRider Viserys spun around towards Brynn and instantly regretted it. He grabbed the door of Dragon's stall to steady himself. "What's wrong?" Triple My Gold Brynn was visibly shaking from anger, but she swallowed, looking at Jaime as she spoke. "Things are a lot worse than we could have expected. The Circle is involved, somehow." She still wasn't sure of the specifics of the plan, but she knew one thing. "Jaime, I...I was their pawn," she whispered, staring sadly into the knight's eyes, shoulders slumping. She figured of all the others, Jaime would understand. She couldn't bring herself to look at Peatir or Viserys. E. Rider Peatir tried to gulp down his anger. But it was clear in his face and eyes. He turned and banged his fist on the barn stall, "How COULD they! I ought to strangle each and every one of them!" he said between clenched teeth.. CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime put a hand on Brynn's shoulder, then pulled her into a hug. "You aren't. Not anymore," He told her. He knew how it felt to have been used. He had always just been a pawn in someone else's game. He released her, taking a step back. "This will change things." The Circle would be a powerful enemy. QHRider Viserys closed his eyes. This was not good. If the Circle wanted him dead then he was down a very, very powerful ally and had instead gained a very, very powerful enemy. "Of course," he said. He looked at Brynn. "Do you have any idea what they might be planning? Or who they're allying themselves with?" He wasn't angry at her at all--it was painfully clear that they had betrayed her trust more than his. OnPar Terrence's eyes widened at Brynn's revelation. They definitely didn't need the entire Circle opposing them. "And the plot thickens," he mused quietly. Louder, he said, "That explains a lot." E. Rider Hmmm not sure what to do with Ilene right now soooo... Ilene opened her eyes at the sound of Peatir's banging. Suddenly a hand covered her mouth and a knife to her throat. After She was silently taken from the barn she felt a sharp blow on her head and all was dark. I was thinking she could be held for a certain ransom(Viserys) QHRider ooc: so someone somehow snuck into a very crowded barn and stole her without anyone present noticing? dddddddd "The only thing about the Circle being against us it that they cannot use their powers against us unless one of their own is in danger. I am so sorry, Brynn." Ashleigh did not know what else to say to Brynn. Yes, Laila had threateded her and attempted to kill her, but she had never been a pawn for the ones who she was closesed to. The Elves had never done anything like that to her. And who knows where Liala was, The Circle surrounded them, On Par Without warning, Sam kicked his stall wall with both back feet. Terrence whirled around, but the pony's attention was fixed on the stack of hay across the barn. Terrence began to chuckle, assuming that the little chestnut wanted more hay, and then realized that Ilene had been sitting on that hay a moment ago. He looked back at Sam, who appeared worried. "Where's Ilene?" he asked loudly. On Par Posted 10/7/2012 11:38:41 PM QHRider (10/7/2012) ooc: so someone somehow snuck into a very crowded barn and stole her without anyone present noticing? (What amazing alliteration I have.) (Why thank you.) Triple My Gold Brynn returned Jaime's hug, fighting back angry tears. She shook her head in response to Viserys's question. "I think Romulus is behind it, but I don't know who he is allied with, nor what his true plans are." She wanted to yell, to scream, to do something, but instead she stood firm. Her friends needed her. "I don't think the entire Circle is against us, though. Romulus is powerful, but he's not the most-loved...he also acted like he had done something to my mentor, Brother Wight, and they have always butted heads." dddddddd "Oh, no! I hope she just went for a walk, but at such a time, I doubt it. I have a very bad feeling about this. Brynn would like to take a moment to thank her fans: CrazyHorseGirl1773 (Lol, okay back to our regularly scheduled programming...) Jaime bit back a groan. He could kiss that night of sleep he'd been looking forward to goodbye. "Lead the way," Jaime said to Ashleigh, gesturing towards the door. Triple My Gold For the moment, Brynn pushed aside her concerns about the Circle; finding Ilene was more important. (pg 270) Ilene woke and found herself tied to a tree with her hands tied behind her and her feet bound. she looked around to see several elves gathered around a campfire talking. One of them saw she was awake and told the others. They all gathered around her but one in particular glared at her evilly. He motioned for another man to untie her and she stood from her odd position. The man had fierce red eyes and asked her a question in a language she couldn't understand. She shook her head and the man punched her. Ilene nearly fell, she had not expected that. The man asked her the same question again and this time she said, "I don't know, I don't understand!" he grabbed her arm and went to punch her again but she jerked away from his grasp, tearing her sleeve almost completely off. The man said something to another elf and she was tied up again.she couldn't fight back, her head was throbbing. E. Rider Peatir followed the others to go find Ilene, but he was still finger about the Circle using Brynn. He looked for any tracks that Ilene's captor might have left but found none. Post #437815 zeesgirl When the group scattered to search for Ilene, Milo looked around for Enzi. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a bloodhound slipping away from the shed row, nose to the ground. Enzi had enough of a head start that he didn't think he could keep up with her, so he could only hope that she had the good sense to come back and tell the others once she found Ilene, rather than make a rash rescue attempt herself. Instead of trying to follow Enzi, Milo looked around at the others. He spotted Brynn tugging on her orange hair. She seemed to be trying not to show it, but she still seemed astonished and crushed at the revelation that at least part of the Circle had been using her. Milo slipped through the crowd to her side. "Are you okay?" he asked quietly. Enzi loped along out of Oslion and into the forest, where Ilene's scent was still fresh on the ground, along with other unfamiliar elvish smells. Why would the elves kidnap Ilene? The elves were supposed to be allies, not enemies. Enzi slowed as the scent grew stronger and mixed with the smell of smoke and firewood. She changed into a small gray squirrel and crept up a tree. From there, she could see a group of elves gathered around a campfire. Across the clearing, Ilene was bound tightly to a tree. Triple My Gold "I just...I don't know anymore, Milo." Brynn looked up at him as she spoke, knowing full well that she must look like a wreck. "I thought I was sent on this journey because the Circle saw something in me that I couldn't see myself. Turns out, they did...they thought I was expendable, someone they wouldn't mind losing once I had served my purpose." She gave a wry chuckle. "Confound it, I wish I had been wrong. I wish I had seen." zeesgirl Milo listened silently, studying Brynn's face as she answered. When he spoke again, his voice was quiet, but sure. "I think the Circle was wrong," he said, as he unconsciously traced the curve of his hook with his fingertips. He glanced over at Viserys, who might not be alive had it not been for Brynn's quick reaction to the ambush, and then looked back to Brynn. "I think they will learn to regret losing you from their side." *edit* I think I finally found a picture of someone who looks reasonably like how I picture Milo in my mind. QHRider Viserys overheard Brynn and Milo's conversation. He turned and smiled at Brynn. "And it's too bad for them, because I'm not giving you back," he said. Zee: Ah! He's cute. E. Rider Ilene watched the men talk and laugh. Several shot her glares and several shot her winks, and some gave her a sorry glance. She looked down at her torn sleeve, she frowned seeing that her whole shoulder and arm were out. She leaned her head back against the tree and sighed. How much worse could it get. They could kill her of course but at least that would take away the shame she was feeling from her sleeve being torn. And the feeling of being a burden on the group. She suddenly felt so guilty. This had all ruined their plans of course. She knew they were all tired. She wished she could just tell them not to bother coming. Besides, it wasn't like they really needed her anyway. They had Brynn and her magic skills, Ashleigh and her elf friends, Enzi and her power to change into things. Why was she even bothering to come along? They would all be better off without her. She was just another person to feed, another person to keep up with. A burden. (Ilene has no self confidence and self esteem. She really puts her self down...) Triple My Gold Brynn couldn't help but smile at both Milo and Viserys. "You're right. Romulus is going to find that I...well, that we all, are much more than he bargained for." Brynn wanted to find Brother Wight as soon as possible; hopefully the man was still alive. But first, they needed to find Ilene. Thasha was still wrapped around Brynn's shoulders and the cat suddenly tensed up, fixing a turquoise gaze into the woods ahead of them. "I think Thasha sees something," Brynn whispered nervously. E. Rider Peatir searched the barn once more for any clues but soon gave up and joined the others. He emerged from the barn and sniffed the air. "I smell smoke." he said to Viserys and Jaime, "A campfire maybe?" dddddddd Matrix walked along with a group of other Elves searching fro Ilene. He noticed that Fingli was missing from town, along with some of his friends. Fingli was the top adversary of Ashleigh, and because of that, one of Matrix's worst nightmares. He was finding little so far, an the darkness of the woods was not helping. He hoped that the other were having more luck finding Ilene. * "Shh! I hear something." Ashleigh said creeping forward a bit, silently as usual. The words in Elvish were softly spoken and hard to hear, but hey were unmistakably not good. What'll we do with her? We can't bring hr back to the village, we'll be caught. But we can't leave her here or she'll be found... Ashleigh shivered when she realized what they were talking about. They had found their people. "We've found them." zeesgirl ooc:During Ilene's next free time, instead of frolicking in the forest or cooking or braiding flowers into her hair or doing other Ileney things, Enzi wants to teach her how to kick some butt! Maybe that will help her confidence! lol Enzi watched for a moment, unsure whether she should try to free Ilene now or go back for Milo and Viserys and the others. Her sensitive ears picked up the barely perceptible sound of movement in the forest behind her. She moved through the branches above the forest floor until she spotted Ashleigh and a group of elves. "Pssst, Ashleigh," Enzi hissed from up in the tree. "Can you distract the elves? I'll free Ilene and get her out of here." dddddddd Ashleigh nodded at Enzi, and motioned for her to wait untill all the elves had either come from the clearing or she had their full attention. Ashleigh already knew that thesee were some of the ones who hated her. She dreaded going in but Ilene's life was far more important. She began to walk louder and went directly towards the clearing stopping t the treeline. The men jumped up and drew their swords before taking a step towards her. "What are you doing here?" It was Fingli. He walked on over to Ashleigh and motioned for the others to follow. "Are you playing 'brave little princess' now, leaving, or are you finally here to help us?" "None of the above, Fingli. I'm looking for Reah. She got out of her stall and I needed to find her." "Really? Because all you have to do is whistle for that horse. I think it's time to 'fess up, you rotten little halfbreed." Ashleigh motioned to Enzi in the agreed way, Ashleigh had their attention and she also didn't have much time. Fingli had drawn his sword and was coming even closer to her. She just hoped Enzi could get Ilene out quickly. (ooc:sorry for the novel, lol) zeesgirl (I love novels!) Enzi scampered around the clearing to the tree where Ilene was tied while Ashleigh prepared to cause a distraction. She climbed the tree until she was just above Ilene's shoulder. "Don't move or speak, please," Enzi said in her tiny squirrel voice. "We shall get you out of this presently." On the opposite side of the tree from the clearing, Enzi began to chew through the ropes that bound Ilene. She was almost finished when she heard Ashleigh's signal. She hastened to sever the last of Ilene's bonds and then changed into a large, scarlet bird. "And, we're out!" she said, seizing Ilene by the collar and flapping skywards. With strength enormously disproportionate to her size, Enzi's phoenix form lifted Ilene straight upwards. Once she was above the canopy, she flew back over the forest back towards Oslion, hoping Ashleigh could handle Ilene's would-be kidnappers. E. Rider Ooc: Ilene would LOVE that! Haha thanks Enzi(: Ilene smiled up at Enzi. "Thank you!" she was so glad to be gone from there. She just hoped Ashleigh would be all right. zeesgirl "You're very welcome," Enzi replied. They had not gone flown far when Enzi spotted some of the others on a path in the woods below. She descended to the ground a small distance in front of them and set Ilene down as gently as she could. Without wasting a moment, Enzi changed back into her human form and explained what had happened. "Some elves had her tied up deeper in the forest," said Enzi to Milo, Brynn, Viserys, and the others. "Ashleigh distracted them while I got Ilene out, but there were a lot of elves. Ashleigh might still need help." Triple My Gold Brynn nodded as Enzi spoke. She was glad to see Ilene back safe and sound, but she feared Ashleigh might soon be in more danger. "Let's go," she answered, her face hardening with determination. She wouldn't be able to fight unless the elves were threatening Ashleigh, but that didn't mean that Thasha couldn't attack if need be. The cat jumped down from Brynn's shoulders and stood by her side, tail swishing gently from side to side. E. Rider Ilene was glad to be back with the others, "Thanks again, Enzi!" she replied quickly puting her hair in one long braid to get it out of her face. "I hope Ashleigh's alright." she exclaimed. "There wasnt that many elves but still too many for Ashleigh to be alone with." OnPar Terrence frowned, unsure what to do. He knew he wouldn't be of any help to Ashleigh, but he felt bad not going to her aid. Puck had no such inhibition, however, and loped after Thasha with a snarl on his face. E. Rider Peatir was glad to see Ilene was alive. But there was a visible spot where she had obviously been punched and her sleeve was completely torn from her dress, leaving her left shoulder completely bare. But over all she didn't look as bad as he had expected. Ilene was beginning to feel dizzy from the blow earlier, but other than that she felt fine. She leaned against a tree for a bit while she waited to see what the others planned to do. Whatever it was, she wanted to be apart of it. She was tired of being the girl who waited while the others made plans. Tired of being a useless sissy. Just then a determination came over Ilene. All this ladylike business had to go. Maybe it was useful in the castle, but her situation had changed. Ilene closed her eyes and somehow let her past go. She opened them again, his time seeing the world through new eyes. dddddddd (Yay Ilene! ) Ashleigh saw Enzi and Ilene fly away. She reached to the pocket of her dress. She had cut the pocket out and she kept a sword where it was hidden but she could get it easily. When she drew her sword, the men all looked shocked and a couple took a step back. "Easy, brat. Just put that thing away before you hurt yourself." Ashleigh laughed. Fingli backed up. He had left his weapons back with his things around the campfire. "You remember when Callach came to power? You were a traitor. You were a warrior, and you went against your people, Fingli. My father - Thasedus, do you remember him?- fought beside you so many times. But you saw him kneeling over my fallen brother and killed him. You killed him, Fingli. YOu killed your own brother." Ashleigh circled Fingli, her blade between him and herself. She was prepared to fight the other men, but all of them seemed to be in shock. "Now. I have the chance to kill you as you killed my father. But I am not as vile a creature a you." She looked up at the one elf who had started toward her. "Hand him the sword." she took a step back as the young man handed him the weapon. "Now, Fingli. Fight me. I will not stoop so low as to kill you when you are unarmed. But we are equals. Fight me, Fingli." (ooh, this is getting interesting!) QHRider Viserys followed after Ashleigh. He stopped and listened. "The lady demands trial by combat," he said, voice low but iron hard. "Do you accept?" he prompted the one Ashleigh called Fingli, hoping that it wouldn't come to an all-out fight. These were supposed to be his allies. Besides, he wasn't in any condition to fight. dddddddd Fingli looked up sharply. "What is he doing here, brat? You have to call a big, strong man to fight your battles for you? Problem is, he doesn't look all that strong." "I fight my own battles, Fingli." Ashleigh said stepping towards the elf. "Now fight me." "Okay then. Have it your way." He said, his sword now poised for the fight. "Took you long enough. If I didn't know better, I'd swear you were afraid of me." Ashleigh blocked his strike with her sword. After sparring for a few minutes, Ashleigh finally spoke up. "Man up, Fingli. I'm getting tired of this fighting. If we fight, we fight my way." Metal clashed as she hit his sword. She kicked kicked his feet our from under him. She put her sword to his throat. She could easily kill him then and there. Instead she shrugged. "Get up Fingli. Get up and fight me like a man." The anger was hot in Ashleigh's voice. She walked calmly, waiting for him to rise. "You little! You do not figh fairly!" Fingli answered, standing. "Coming from you? Really? You were the one who stabbed your own -unarmed- brother to death! You diserve a death like my father had, but I have given you a chance to kill the last one of his line. Me. Come on, Fingli, or prove to everyone what a coward you are." He ran at her in a rush of anger, but Ashleigh moved her sword. He impaled himself on the blade. Blood gushed from the wound as Ashleigh pulled her sword free. "A traitor shall die a traitor's death." She said as she stabbed him once more, this time through the heart. She looked up, blood was dripping of her blade and it was all over her dress. "Anyone else?" All the men backed away, dropping their weapons. Ashleigh turned. "I think we're done here." she said to Viserys, who looked a bit shocked himself. " I'll call Matrix and get the rest of these men arested." she walked past him out of the trees. "Let's go." (uh, might not want to get on Ashleigh's bad side, lol) QHRider Viserys grinned. "Remind me not to upset you," he said to Ashleigh. She was a fierce fighter, and though he'd known she must be good, he hadn't known she was that good. He turned and followed her back to the others. zeesgirl Milo looked up when Ashleigh and Viserys returned. Ashleigh's sword was bare and bloody, but she seemed unhurt. He looked between them, waiting for an explanation. dddddddd Posts: 955, Visits: 596 "Yeah, you might not want to. He diserved it for more than kidnapping Ilene. I don't know how much of that you heard." The walked back to the others. The fighting was done, and Matrix knew where to find the others. Ashleigh felt she had finally avenged her father's death. She still nearly shook with anger, but there was a sense of calm as well. She just hoped that this would end some of the strife in Oslion. QHRider "Ashleigh's brilliant," Viserys told Milo. "I believe Enzi and Ilene are back safe, and Ashleigh has ensured that it won't happen again." He grinned brightly. "I do believe it's time to turn our attention to other matters. The Circle, for instance." (Uh-oh I think Viserys is hitting that point of overtired where everything's hilarious.) zeesgirl "Or getting somewhere safe for the night?" Milo asked, looking around at the fading daylight. In the past, he'd always felt at home in the solitude of the woods, but now they seemed more dangerous. "Or dinner?" Enzi chimed in. "Can we turn our attention to dinner?" The Circle could wait until tomorrow. If they could be safe in Oslion, she wanted to return there for a night and hopefully get her hands on a gigantic meal. ddddddd “Thank you, Viserys. As of now, Oslion is a safe place to be. Also, we need to prepare -some of us more than others- because Matrix has planned a feast in which we are the honored guests. It should be starting in under an hour." Ashleigh said, looking at herself. She had the blood of a dead man -no, elf- all over her. She needed to get clean, and soon. QHRider "Then we shall," Viserys said, even though he was more tired than hungry. There was no way he could skip such an appearance without offering grave insult to his host though. (Also do you want to hear Viserys talk about his family? Of course you do.) zeesgirl Milo frowned at the mention of a feast. He was hungry, certainly, but he disliked formal occasions where he might be expected to socialize with strangers. Enzi grinned broadly at the mention of a feast. "Great! On to Oslion." E. Rider Ilene took a deep breath and walked over to Jaime, "I need to talk to you..." she said kind of quietly. There was a serious look in her eye as she spoke. She but her lip as she looked into his eyes nervously. CrazyHorseGirl1773 (Yikes, I missed a lot again!) Jaime raised his eyebrows, but nodded. He offered her his arm and lead her away from the group a ways. "What is it you need?" He asked, giving her a concerned look. E. Rider Ilene took his arm and walked beside him. She took a breath again before speaking, "Jaime, I'm tired of being...I don't know. Useless and helpless...and I'm tired of all of this lady like business and I'm done. It was fine for the castle but now that I'm free I don't want to live like that anymore..." she hadn't meant to tell him all that but the words had escaped her lips before she could stop them. She stopped walking and turned to look into his eyes, "Jaime, I want you to teach me to fight..." she said before swallowing. The wind played with the strings from the missing sleeve. dddddddd Ashleigh tried hard to get all the blood off of her, but some stains were left. The blood had dried on her skin, leaving her hadns with deep brown marks of where it had been. She was frustrated. She still had anger for Fingli, even though he was dead. Then she realized that she had just killed her father's brother. Turncoat brother, she reminded herself. She finally gave up on the bloodstains and pulled on a clean dress. At least after this she could fall into the oblivion of sleep CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime regarded her in silence for a moment, then said, "I think that's wise, my lady." He paused again. "We'll start tomorrow if we get the opportunity." He had no idea how long they would stay in Oslion, it was possible they would leave the next day. E. Rider Ilene looked down for a moment, trying to hide the excited look in her eye. It had felt good to get everything off of her chest. She smiled, "I know it won't be easy but I think I can do it. And I'm sure I couldn't have a better teacher. Who better to teach me than Jaime Tallhart himself?" QHRider There was exactly zero chance of getting his travel worn, and now ripped and bloody, clothes to resemble anything like decent, so Viserys didn't even bother. Until it was time to eat, he was going to take a nap. He settled down under a tree, Rhaegar curled in his lap, and soon fell asleep. Peatir walked over to Brynn, "Follow me..." he motioned for her to follow him to a tree where he leaned against it. Triple My Gold Brynn followed Peatir wordlessly into the woods, away from the others and to the tree where he was waiting. "What is it, Peatir?" she asked quietly, looking up at the faery curiously. E. Rider He smiled and pulled out the small box he had bought earlier in the elf village. "Open it..." he said impatiently as he handed it to her. He couldn't wait for Brynn to open it up and find the ring with a gold band an beautiful amber jewel. Triple My Gold Brynn gently took the box from Peatir's hand, opening it slowly and carefully. Inside was a delicate gold ring, with a beautiful amber stone set in the center that seemed to glow like a warm coal. She felt her eyes widen and her jaw drop slightly, and for a brief moment she completely forgot about her problems with the Circle. "It's beautiful," she said quietly, looking from the ring to Peatir. E. Rider Peatir smiled softly as he looked into her eyes. "I thought you'd like it, when I saw it...it reminded me of your eyes.." he paused before putting his hand on the side of her face. Triple My Gold Brynn could feel the heat rising to her face as Peatir placed his hand there, yet the rest of her felt frozen in place, unable to move or to hardly even think. She slipped the ring onto her finger and looked back into his green eyes; even though she wasn't able to form the words, her eyes said enough. E. Rider Peatir embraced her in his arms and laid his head on hers, "Oh, Brynn....I love you." he said softly, it felt funny saying it but it was true. He had thought of hardly anything else the past few days. Triple My Gold Brynn smiled, returning Peatir's embrace. "I love you, too." Though she had never been in love before, she knew she had never felt anything for anybody like she had felt for Peatir. (sorry so short...I can't think right now) E. Rider Peatir smiled and held Brynn closer, "Then marry me..." he said after a moment. His heart beat fast, really fast. He was sure Brynn could feel it. Triple My Gold Peatir's heart was racing fast against Brynn, but her own heart was beating just as hard, just as fast. Many girls her age had probably spent their entire lives dreaming about this moment, but she had never been one of those girls. Now that it was staring her in the face, she realized she had never been more happy or more terrified in her life. "Are you sure you want to spend the rest of your life with me?" she asked quietly, smiling, half teasing and half serious. Triple My Gold (10/9/2012) Peatir's heart was racing fast against Brynn, but her own heart was beating just as hard, just as fast. Peatir grinned and closed his eyes, letting the moment sink in. "I'm sure, but then you may not want to spend the rest of your life with me.." he said as he kissed her forehead lightly. On Par Terrence brightened at the mention of the feast. He briefly wondered what had happened to Peatir, Byrnn, Ilene, and Jaime, but soon forgot about them as he tried to comb the dirt and leaves out of his hair. Triple My Gold Brynn laughed softly. "It's settled, then," she smiled. "You want to do the honors?" She held the ring in one hand, and held the other hand out to him, wiggling her fingers. E. Rider Peatir laughed and gently held Brynn's hand and slipped the ring on her finger. He continued to hold her hand as he looked into her eyes. He hugged her around the waist and looked into her eyes, "Are you really sure you want to marry me?" he asked smiling. He knew she would say yes but he just wanted to hear her say it once more. Triple My Gold Brynn wrapped her arms around Peatir's neck, pulling herself in closer to him. "More sure than I have been about anything in my life," she replied, smiling. She then did the thing she had been wanting to do for a while, but hadn't had the courage to: she kissed him. She recalled one of her instructors saying that love was the most powerful natural force in the world, even stronger than wind or fire or stone. At the time, Brynn hadn't understood, but at that moment, the revelation had become perfectly clear to her. E. Rider Peatir held Brynn closer. He felt as though life couldn't get any better. Never in his life had he been so happy. He was all fireworks on the inside. Triple My Gold Brynn pulled away from the kiss, slowly and reluctantly, but did not take her arms away from where they rested. "I suppose we should get back to the others," she murmured softly, thinking of the feast the elves had prepared for them. E. Rider Peatir was reluctant too but they couldn't stay there forever. "Shall we tell the others?" he asked. E. Rider Ilene looked down for a moment, trying to hide the excited look in her eye. It had felt good to get everything off of her chest. She smiled, "I know it won't be easy but I think I can do it. And I'm sure I couldn't have a better teacher. Who better to teach me than Jaime Tallhart himself?" Triple My Gold Brynn shrugged. "They'll probably figure it out sooner or later...but I want to keep it to ourselves for a little while. Call me selfish, but right now I just want to share the moment with you, and nobody else." She grinned, taking Peatir's hand. "But if we do tell them, I suppose the feast tonight would be an appropriate setting. (In which I post a novel about Dov's adventures) After being dismissed, Dov walked briskly through the castle halls until he reached his private quarters, where he donned a thick, hooded traveling cloak that obscured most of his face. Most of the townspeople would not be able to recognize him anyway, but he was taking no chances. Once satisfied with his appearance, he went to the stables. A groom had already tacked up his large grey stallion, Carnifax, for him, and Dov tossed the boy a gold coin before mounting up. The boy had done well, after all; he had chosen plain and rather unremarkable tack, which suited Dov's purposes. Dov rode out into the streets surrounding the castle, into the more impoverished section of town. Carnifax twitched his ears nervously at the new sights and sounds, but did not spook or shy, a testament to the stallion's excellent training. Mothers shooed their children inside, men stared suspiciously from shop fronts. This was not a place for any wanderer to be who had any self-respect, but Dov had a mission. He needed to find someone who had seen the Dragonbourne, and this was as good a place as any to start. He halted Carnifax in front of a tavern and handed the horse off to the groom there before entering the stuffy, dimly-lit pub. He sat down at the bar and ordered a mug of ale, but only sipped at it. He was waiting for the crowd to get larger, as he didn't want to arouse suspicion. E. Rider Peatir smiled and kissed Brynn's forehead before looking into her eyes. "It that's what you want, my darling, then we'll keep it to ourselelves for a while." he smiled. Tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear. "I can't wait untill I can call you my wife..." Triple My Gold "All in good time," Brynn smiled, blushing slightly. She looked down and saw, a few feet away, Thasha sitting on the ground and watching the two of them intently with those bright blue eyes of hers. "I think she's been watching us the whole time..." Brynn trailed off. E. Rider Posted Yesterday @ 11:16:36 PM "Thasha!" he chuckled taking Brynn's hand. "Come on. We better get back." he led her back to the others. He wanted to explode and tell the whole world Brynn was going to be his wife. But if she wanted to keep it between them for a while he was sure even telling everyone wouldn't stop the wild explosions going on inside him. E. Rider Ilene looked down for a moment, trying to hide the excited look in her eye. It had felt good to get everything off of her chest. She smiled, "I know it won't be easy but I think I can do it. And I'm sure I couldn't have a better teacher. Who better to teach me than Jaime Tallhart himself?" CrazyHorseGirl1773 Posted Today @ 12:20:23 AM Jaime smiled. He wasn't sure how good of a teacher he would make. "We should get back to the others," he said. Jaime lead the way back to group, only to find Peatir and Brynn gone and Viserys asleep. At the sight of the others, he turned to Ashleigh. "Perhaps there's a place we could all clean up before we go to this feast. We do want to make a good impression, after all," he said to her. (Hey, you don't have to repost things for me either, I always read through the pages that I missed. ) Triple My Gold Posted Today @ 12:26:25 AM Brynn walked with Peatir to the others, where she saw Jaime, Ilene, and Ashleigh standing. She felt self-conscious, like everyone could see right through her. Thasha had followed them out of the woods and was now standing rather protectively at Brynn's feet. Brynn reached down to pet the cat, who immediately turned away from Brynn when she touched her. Ilene followed Jaimie back to the others. Cleaning up sounded like a wonderful idea. She was beginning to feel hungry too. "There was a wash tub in the barn." Ilene remembered. "And there's a creek behind the barn. As for us women last time we were here there was a kind old dressmaker who gave me a clean dress and fixed my hair. She's not far. And I did promise to come again." Ilene said. She suddenly noticed that Brynn looked different, in a good way but something was on her mind. Ashleighs face went pale. The dressmaker was her grandmother, and the mother of the man she had just killed. Now both of the poor womn's sons had been killed. Ashleigh had always loved being with her grandmother, but she dreaded telling her about Fingli. She would surely ask about her bloody hands and clothes. Maybe I should go to Kahlika's house instead...but, no that would hurt not only my grandmother but also the others, especially Ilene, by not going with them. Ashleigh forced herself to take a deep breath. "Yes, she is very nice. We women will go to the dressmaker's and you men can go to the stable. Is that okay with everyone?" Time to face the music... (I won't be back on until about 6-6:30. you guys can either start the feast or I can when I get on tonight. I wont start it if someone is midconversation, obviously. ) (Wait, what? Peatir and Brynn are engaged? That was sudden. Milo might be disappointed; I think he may have been starting to like Brynn.) Enzi did not approve of baths in general, but a feast was plenty of incentive to get cleaned up, so she followed after Ilene. Milo sighed and made his way back to the stable. In his knapsack, he had a shirt that was vaguely cleaner than the one he wore now, but no other extra clothes. In the barn, he pulled off his shirt and splashed some water from the washtub onto his face. The women made their way to the old woman's house. The woman, Mrs. Alaine, smiled when she saw Ilene and her friends. "Lady Ilene! Oh it's so good to see you again! And you brought your friends! Ilene smiled and introduced everyone. The old woman smiled, not really noticing Ashleigh. She was soon everywhere. Matching dress colors with eye colors or personalities. "You must have the perfect dresses!" she exclaimed. They were soon all dressed up, jewelry and everything, which Ilene had said. I to but the old woman had insisted on. The woman was more than happy o fix all of their hair. "Oh you all look absolutely beautiful!" she said standing back to admire her work. Ilene opened her mouth to protest against all the extras she had done for them but the lady interrupted her, "I know what you are going to say so don't. I don't have daughters of my own, not even daughter in laws. Let me, please?" Ilene smiled "Alright. Thank you very much." Aileen secretly left the woman some money and they were off back towards the rest of the group. Ilene felt absolutely beautiful in her lacy white dress with a sky blue sash. Her hair lay softly about her shoulders which thankfully were no longer bare. (Wait, what? Peatir and Brynn are engaged? That was sudden. Milo might be disappointed; I think he may have been starting to like Brynn.) (we can make this crazy and dramatic if you like...a love triangle perhaps? this could be interesting ) (just to spice things up a bit, even at Brynn's expense. Poor girl, I have done so much to her already, but I can get away with torturing my own brainchild, right?) Now that Brynn was all freshened up and in a clean dress, one that was nearly a match for the golden amber of her eyes, she began to feel a bit nervous. Had she made the right decision, accepting Peatir's engagement? She had only known him for a couple of days, after all...was she rushing into this? And who was she to know what love really was? Perhaps it would be better to tell Peatir they needed to wait. So many thoughts were running through her head that she felt like it might explode. Maybe she wouldn't even go to the feast at all tonight, which would be a waste of such a nice dress, but she really didn't have much of a desire to be around the others just now...not even Peatir. Peatir washed his face and let the water trickle down his neck. His thoughts drifted to Brynn. He realized he had only known her for a few days, but he felt as if he'd known her longer. He frowned to himself. He shouldn't have asked her to marry him so soon. He had been to wrapped up in his feelings to think clearly. He sighed. Maybe they should wait a while. Ilene smiled at Brynn, "My, you look stunning in that dress! It matches your eyes!" she noticed the amber ring on the girl's finger but didn't think much about it since the woman had given nearly all of them some piece of jewelry to match their dresses. Ilene's white dress flowed softly about her as she walked. It was gorgeous but comfortable, but the old woman had tied the silky blue sash a little too tight. "Thanks," Brynn returned Ilene's smile, though her heart wasn't entirely in it. "You look lovely as well. We all do." She was troubled, and times like these warranted a discussion with the forest, to help her clear her mind and decide what to do. "You all go on to the feast without me, I'll join in a few minutes," she added. In all honesty, she didn't know if she really would join, but she needed some time to think. The group of young women soon joined the rest of the group. Everyone seemed nice and refreshed. She felt absolutely beautiful in her lovely gown. Her stomach was beginning to rumble from hunger. she hoped no one heard it. Milo pulled on his cleanish white shirt and his dark leather vest and made a vague attempt to tidy his dark hair. He looked at his long knife and debated for a moment whether it would be too rude to wear it to the feast. He strapped it to his belt-- he would rather err on the side of caution and be seen as rude than risk being caught without a weapon. Outside the barn, he found Ilene, Brynn, Ashleigh, and Enzi. All four young women looked ready to attend a ball in the King's palace, with elaborate gowns and glittering jewelry. He noticed that Brynn looked decidedly uncomfortable. As she excused herself from the group, Milo intercepted her before she could disappear to the woods. "You all right?" he asked.

Barn-Bum
Laila stepped out of the shaows. Her face still hidden behind her dark cloak. "Ah, I was about to ask the same thing" She said feeling her many weapons under her dress. Maya place a paw protectivly infront of her. QHRider Viserys did not loosen his grip on his sword hilt. "Seeing as how you followed us, it would only be polite for you to introduce yourself first, my lady." He wasn't sure if it were the girl or the large cat at her feet, but gooseflesh crept up Viserys' arms. Barn-Bum Laila smiled. "Of course sir where have my manners gone too?" Laila said smiling her evil grin when she spotted her brother. SHe dropped her hood. "Your turn" She said stroking Maya.
zeesgirl *edit* ooc: ok so I took a long time to type this so you guys ninja'd on me, but you kind of think Milo's dead and he's hella different from a few years ago, so recognizing him in a dim alley seems unlikely... also I am totally imagining Laila as Azula now.
Out of the corner of his eye, Milo noticed Enzi slip away behind them while he, Viserys, and Duff faced the young woman and her companion, some sort of dark big cat. When he heard the stranger speak, he recognized her voice. This was impossible, but his sister's voice was unmistakable. He tightened his grip on his dagger hilt. What was she doing out here alone in the city, following mysterious strangers? He briefly considered revealing himself, but he wanted to preserve his anonymity until he could find the executioner and his supposed underground band of rebels. He kept his head down, but he was confident that he had changed enough in the last three years that she would not recognize him if he did not speak.
On Par Terrence frowned. Sometimes it was nice to be able to sense emotions. Sometimes it was not. For the umpteenth time, he wondered who and what his mother had been. Puck jumped into Terrence's chest and then sprang off, bringing him out of his brooding thoughts. You're right, boy. I'd better make the best of it. Terrence strode off in the direction of the town. To sense any emotion at all from several miles away was quite a feat, to sense fear and evil from several miles meant someone was in big trouble. That thought spurred Terrence into a jog; Puck loped alongside him with his ears pricked. Terrence's mind ran though many possibilities and discarded them just as quickly. Even if he could find the source of the emotions, which was unlikely, he would not likely be able to help. He finally decided on a plan of action that didn't seem like it would end with him getting killed.
Barn-Bum Maya sniffed the air and growled. "Oh now now Maya lets play nice" Laila said. "For now" She added. Laila took a step forward. "Now where do you think your going on this sde of town? I would just hate to see you get lost" She took another step.
QHRider Viserys raised an eyebrow. "I'm sorry, my lady, but I still have no idea who you are." Whoever she was, he wasn't about to reveal himself--he'd gambled and come out okay with Hook and Enzi, but this girl was giving him a bad feeling. He glanced over at Hook, wondering if he recognized her, but his new companion was staring at the ground and Enzi had slipped off. They knew her alright.
Barn-Bum Laila noticed one stayed quiet. She took another gracefully step toward them. Maya gliding along with her.
"Oh then you must be quite knew" Laila said smiling a wicked smile. "Laila, princess, you must of heard all sorts of storys about me" Laila said darkly.
QHRider The woman approached, so Viserys drew his sword, holding it out in front of them in a ready guard stance. "If it's all the same to you, your Highness, I'd prefer it if you kept your distance." His stomach clenched. This was the daughter of the man who'd murdered his whole family. It wasn't smart to draw a sword on her, but he'd take his chances. Maybe Cellach could learn what it felt like to lose family.
On Par When the city gates came into view, Terrence slowed to a brisk walk. He crossed under the portcullis and weaved his way through the city. Miraculously, his sense of the emotions was still holding, although it was growing harder to sense. He walked a bit faster, ducking down a side street and passing a few alleys. The emotions were growing stronger, he was certain he was headed in the right direction. He turned down another side street, and his connection vanished completely. Swearing under his breath, he stood still and looked at his surroundings.
He had followed his senses into a rather shabby part of town. He spotted a burly man sneaking around and took a chance. "Good sir," he called, hoping he wasn't making a mistake, "Have you seen anything, err, unusual recently?"
ooc: Umm, can Enzi be a burly man? If not, just put whatever she is and I'll edit my post..... yes?
Barn-Bum Maya let out a deep growl and dropped to a crouch. "Wait Maya" Laila signaled before the giant cat toatally killed the stranger. "Now sir, I would be careful about who you threaten" She neither took a step back or forward.
zeesgirl ^I was actually thinking she'd turn into some kind of big cat to match Laila's panther if it came to fighting.
Milo watched his sister warily. She'd been a talented fighter even at fifteen when he'd last seen her, so he could only imagine she was more dangerous now. He pulled his hunting knife from its sheath, but took a step backwards. He looked around the alley, thinking of a way out of the increasingly tense situation.
On Par ooc: Well that'll work. Scratch the last paragraph of my earlier post, then.
Terrence took stock of his surroundings, hoping to find a local he could question. Just then, an extremely large cat bounded off a roof and stared at the boy before stalking toward an alley that Terrence knew to be a dead end. Big cats in the city was definitely not normal. Terrence had seen his fair share of large cats, considering her prefered the company of animals to people, and the eyes of this cat were definitely not feline. He turned and followed it to the alley. I'm a friend, he mouthed toward the animal, thinking it with all his mind for good measure.
He peered over a wooden crate and saw the two strangers from the bar. With her back to him was a tall woman, another large cat crouched at her side, ready to pounce. Just how many large cats are there in Courtcliff today? Terrence thought, exasperated. However, the second cat confirmed the identity of the woman, and it looked as though Cloak and Dagger also knew who they were facing, and weren't thrilled about it.
zeesgirl Enzi successfully looped around the alley and returned behind the young woman and the panther. But as she settled into a crouch to watch and wait, she heard light footsteps behind her and turned her head to see a boy. She lashed her long striped tail back and forth. She recognized him from the bar. What was he doing here? He mouthed something at her. A friend? He seemed harmless, but she adjusted position so that she could keep him in the corner of her eye while she observed Milo and Viserys and the girl.
QHRider
Viserys grinned. "Well, Princess, perhaps you should be careful about who you follow into alleyways." His sword held steady. "What do you want?"
CrazyHorseGirl1773
She was dangerous. "I know exactly how she is," Said Jaime, he had never been one to hold back his opinion, but it would be downright idiotic of him to say anything against the King and his kin in their castle.
On Par Terrence's mind was racing. He didn't see any solution to this predicament that didn't end in bloodshed. Laila and her cat were outnumbered, although it didn't appear that The princess was aware of the second cat. Terrence knew he could provide a nudge that could avoid violence, but he still wasn't sure who's side he was on.
Barn-Bum "Ahh what do I want? Well many things but right now I want answers!" Laila said pulling out her mechete (im sorry i dont know how to spell it but its a big long knife) When Maya saw her draw her weapon she droped into a crouch facing the group Maya sensed tha there was someone behind them but Laila could deal with that later. Laila smiled her last evil smile before she pushed off and reached the long white haired man. Her knife made contact with his arm. She pushed him to the ground and he went toppiling. Now what fun would it be to kill him? Maya was already on top of the dog. "Easy Maya, no kill" Laila instructed. She didn't want to kill the group yet. The fight had just started.
On Par It was too late for intervention; the princess had just attacked Dagger. Terrence was no fighter, and he only carried a small bow anyway. The cat-that-wasn't-a-cat had bounded into the alley as soon as Laila had moved for Dagger. If Laila was successful in detaining Cloak and Dagger, she could have them imprisoned for no reason at all. There was no such thing as fair trial when a royalty was involved. This made up Terrence's mind as to who's side he was on, if it came to picking sides.
Without thinking, Terrence darted down the alley on the opposite wall from the cat. Daggar was up now, and exchanging blows with Laila. He saw Terrence approaching, but Laila didn't hear him over the sound of the fight. He had no weapon, so he did the only sensible think and dove for the princess's feet, rolling quickly away and out of sight. Open skirmishes were not Terrence's cup of tea. Barn-Bum Laila punched the kid who had attacked her in the face. She motioned at Maya, Maya soon was on top of the guy (Terrence) He had no weapon. Dagger was a good fighter but Laila was also good. They went exchanging blows. "You-" She deflected a blow. "May want to know we are fighting for the same cause" Laila deflected a nother blow. "You shall-" She trust forward but missed. "be happy to know in the next 24 hours the king shall be dead" Laila said jumping backwards. E. Rider
Ilene sighed she knew he didn't like the Princess anymore than she herself did, but neither of them wanted to get in trouble by saying it outloud. Ilene searched for another topic to talk about, a lighter more happier one, "So, Jaime, what adventures have you gone on lately?" she said beginning to walk
zeesgirl Milo slipped around Laila as she fought Viserys, and then took advantage of the newcomer's surprise attack, too busy to stop and wonder why the boy from the bar had come back. While Laila was off balance, Milo hooked the machete blade and twisted his wrist hard. It was one of the first tricks he'd learned with a hook instead of a hand, and it was a good one. With leverage on his side, he yanked the blade from Laila's grip and threw it away down the alley.
Enzi moved the moment the strange pair attacked. Leaving the girl in Viserys's seemingly capable hands, she pounced on the panther as it attacked Duff. Enzi had assumed the form of a tiger, so she had the advantage of size and strength over the other cat, but she was unfamiliar with fighting in this form. Hopefully she and Duff together would be a match for the panter.

QHRider Laila was a good fighter, but her blade wasn't made to withstand combat. Viserys' was. He focused on her, trusting Hook and Enzi to take care of themselves. Hook caught her machete with his hook, wrenching it from her grasp. Quick as a snake, Viserys swung his sword at her throat, pressing it hard enough that blood tricked around the steel. "Move and I'll carve you a new smile," Viserys said. Her words from earlier came back to him. You may want to know we are fighting for the same cause. You shall be happy to know in the next 24 hours the king shall be dead. "Why do you want your father dead?"
On Par In less than 24 hours, the king will be dead. Terrence had decided who's side he was on. He was on the side of the people: the tavern keeper, the farmer, the barmaid, the orphan, and the mother. And Princess Power-Hungry would not be a fair monarch to Terrence's side. Fairly sure that his identity had not been discovered, he sprinted to find Jaime.
CrazyHorseGirl1773
"I'm afraid life has been quite boring lately, m'lady," Jaime said, it was mostly true. He'd been forced to punish people who had committed crimes out of desperation. He was tired of watching the city that he loved, and that he'd grown up in, suffer. On Par Terrence weaved through the city as quickly as possible without arousing undue alarm or suspicion. As he darted through the castle gates, he dearly hoped Jaime was both accessible and sober.
CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime turned when he heard someone crash through the gates of the castle, his hand going immediately to the hilt of his sword. Jaime immediately recognized the boy-- man?-- that had burst into the courtyard, he was present that morning in the inn.
Barn-Bum Laila smiled. "Ah you must be very new" She said slasing his arm. Her thoat skin had already formed again. There was no cut. She picked herself up from the ground and pulled out a sword. One hand a knife and the other a sword. She attacked with both weapons.
Maya lunged at the tiger pinning it to the ground and biting the neck. The tiger threw her off. Maya landed on her feet and came running back at the dog and tiger. Claws flashing about in the air.
zeesgirl (ooc: pssst we took her machete. sorry, you're outnumbered, lol. And what IS she? Where do her healing powers come from?) Barn-Bum Ooc: whoops. Scratch that she just has a sword. She is a human she just got a potion to heal her. Its not permant.
"I want my father dead for many reasons, so fighting here is silly" She said standing in a fighting stance but not moving. Maya padded to her side. "One: he killed my brother, two: he is weak and three: It is time for someone like me to rule" She said her sword pointed ready to go.
QHRider ooc: when did she have time to take a potion? Or was that before?
Viserys didn't lower his blade. "Someone like you? What makes you oh so qualified?"
On Par "Ah, Sir Jaime," Terrence fumbled, surprised to have found him so quickly. "Could, ah, I speak with you for a moment? In private?" he finished, noticing Ilene. "I hope your chamber remains troll free, my lady." He flashed her a grin, which was not as charming as it could have been, had he not been so sweaty and breathless. He tugged Jaime toward the castle gardens.
Barn-Bum Sensing his hesitation Laila used the but of the sword to hit him in the chest. Knocking him to the ground. Laila signaled Maya to jump onto the roof and wait for her until she called again.
Barn-Bum ooc: before she went to town
"Well why does my father?'' She asked backing up a bit trying to signal she wanted to talk for a second.
CrazyHorseGirl1773
Jaime gave the newcomer a bewildered look as he was dragged away from Ilene. He detached himself from Terrence as they reached the gardens. "Who are you and what do you want?" Jaime was not feeling very friendly.
On Par "What? It's me, Terrence." His words came out all in a rush. "Oh, right, you wouldn't really know me because I'm mostly the fix-it man, 'cause Berun's too old to go up all the stairs anymore, but everyone knows you, because you're a public figure almost." Jaime looked like he was about to punch Terrence and leave. Uh-oh.
"Anyway," Terrence said, trying to calm himself, "I'm Terrence. Pleased to meet you." He stuck out his hand. "I overheard something in town today that doesn't bode well for Rharewin." He leaned close. "It's about the king."
zeesgirl Milo still held his hunting knife ready. He took his eyes off Laila for the briefest instant to glance at Enzi and Duff. Both were bleeding from the panther's claws, but neither seemed seriously injured. He turned back to his sister as she listed her reasons for wanting their father dead. He was surprised. The two of them had gotten along well as young children, but they had drifted apart as they reached their teens. She had always been the more ambitious of the two of them, and it sounded like she would not have had a problem killing Milo herself had he still been between her and the throne.
CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime stared at the man spewing words at him. He blinked a few times. "Uh, alright Terrence. What does this have to do with me? Despite what the king may think, I cannot stop people from talking."
QHRider
"I'm not saying he does, but that doesn't mean you do automatically." Viserys didn't lower his sword. She seemed the type to try just about anything to win, and he wasn't about to give her a chance.
On Par "But it's not just talk," Terrence insisted. He opened his mouth, then shut it again, looking around frantically. He'd never done anything important before, and this was making him really nervous. "There's a plot to kill the king," he choked out. "And it's going to happen before tomorrow night!"
CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime's eye brows shot up, then he chuckled. The king was constantly watched by one of his trusted knights, he'd like to see someone try to assassinate him. "Who did you hear this from?"
Barn-Bum "My father is foolish!" She yelled. Anger flashing in her eyes. "He took my brother from me!" She said. "And my mother, and everything I loved!" Laila said.
QHRider Join the club, Viserys though. "And he's done that to many, many people. Do all of them get partial kingship?" he asked, sarcastic.
Barn-Bum Laila's eyes narrowed. "Shut up before I slit your throat" She warned.
QHRider Viserys laughed. "You are in no position to make threats, your Highness."
On Par
Terrence gulped. "From someone important enough to have me killed for the fun of it," he said slowly. "And if the king expires, the one who would gain the most is..." he trailed off. Accusing the princess of conspiracy to the head watchman was probably not the brightest thing he'd ever done. He only hoped that he would live to regret it.
Barn-Bum "And why is that? I have every right to" She spat. "My father deserves to die"
CrazyHorseGirl1773
Jaime was about to ask him to be more specific when it occurred to him who would take the throne if her father were to suddenly die. He may not know much about politics, but he did know that he didn't want another Ailero on the throne. He wasn't even sure if he still wanted the one that was on it now! Jaime sighed and rubbed a hand over his face. "Where is she?" On Par Terrence wished he could sense emotions whenever he wanted to, instead of sporradically. Instead, he would have to take a chance. "She's in the city, I, err, followed her there, and she picked a fight with Cloak and-- uh, the two strangers from the inn earlier today." Terrence himself didn't fully understand how he had sensed his way to the threesome, and he didn't want to try to explain it to Jaime.
"Jamie, what can you do?" he asked. The burly watchman looked like he was ready to run to the alley immediately. Terrence stepped in front of him and grabbed his arm. "You are sworn to obey the royal family, aren't you? You can not hinder her fancy-pants openly. Please protect the king. He's the best we've got right now. I doubt she would attack him, I think sublety is more her style. Poison, or an assassain perhaps."
E. Rider Ilene smiled back at Terrence but on the inside she was dissapointed to see Jaime walk away, but she waited patiently by a bunch of roses. Humming as she fingered the delicate flower petals. She glanced at Terrence and Jaime. Jaime looked annoyed at Terrence, and Terrence didn't look too happy either. She picked one of the roses and twirled it between her fingers. Smelling it before she decided to pick a bouquet of them for her room. She took her time in picking different colors, picking a yellow one, a red one, and a few pink ones. Maybe this would lighten her room a bit.
QHRider
This girl was mad as a box of frogs. Viserys shook his head and glanced over at Hook. He didn't want to turn Laila free--he wasn't sure of what she would do, but he knew it wouldn't be anything good--but he didn't want to keep her around either.
CrazyHorseGirl1773
"She's going to get herself killed out there," Jaime snapped, the princess apparently didn't realize how unpopular the royal family was with the small folk. He sighed again. "But I guess that would solve our problem." He pinched the bridge of his nose. Terrence was right, what could he do? Take the princess back to the castle and let the king die? Leave her there to get killed, or worse?
E. Rider Ilene sensed that whatever Terrence and Jaime were talking about was serious. She didn't know whether she should leave and let them talk, or wait for Jaime to get done talking. She sat on one of the benches admiring her bouquet and then looked over at Terrence. He was very nice. Somehow she had the feeling he liked her. Jaime seemed to like her too.
On Par "Umm, she had several long knives and she took Maya with her." It was supposed to a "big secret" that Laila had a panther, but everyone knew about it. You could hardly keep orders for raw meat a secret. "I don't think she'll die, but she will definitely get into trouble," Terrence mused. "But how can we get her back to the castle without endangering her or anyone else?"
CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime's frown turned into a smirk, "A nice knock on the head would probably do it." If they knocked the princess unconscious, they could get her back to the castle quietly, and keep her locked in her room until they could figure out a way to protect the king.
On Par "But I couldn't knock a toad unconscious!" Terrence protested. Jaime looked at him like he was crazy. "Oh, right. You can knock her unconscious. Ok, follow me," Terrence called, dashing off like a mad rabbit.
Barn-Bum Laila flipped up her hood. "Well until next time" She said jumping on a crate and scrambling to the roof. She gave Maya the command and jumped onto her back. Maya shot off jumping from roof to roof.

CrazyHorseGirl1773Jaime shook his head and took of after Terrence. They passed the stable, which made Jaime stop. He entered quickly and had his huge palfrey tacked up in minutes, and kicked her into a canter to catch up with Terrence. He pulled up the mare and offered the boy a hand. "We should hurry." E. RiderIlene saw Jaime and Terrence run off. She was dissapointed she hadn't gotten to say goodbye. She stood up and picked up her bouquet. Barn-BumMaya jumped from roof to roof quickly and soon they reached the back wall of the castle. She pushed aside a bush and followed Maya into the secret passage. (without Terrnece and Jaime seeing cause there at the back of the castle.) The tunnel lead to a tapestry. She pushed it aside and entered her chambers locking the doors. On ParTerrence had Jaime stop two blocks from the alley. They approached cautiously on foot. QHRiderViserys sheathed his blade and darted after Laila, doing his best to remain unseen by her. He took a different route across the rooftops, tailing after her, until she vanished into a passage in the back of the castle. He knew it--it was the same one he and his mother had taken to escape Courtcliff fifteen years ago. Viserys let her go and returned to the alley where he had left Hook and Enzi. E. RiderIlene sighed and began walking back to her tower. She fingered the bouquet as she walked, thinking of a place in her room she could put them. Her fingers touched the flower that Jaime had put in her hair and she smiled. She entered the castle. Suddenly she felt strange, like something big was going on. zeesgirlWhen the girl bolted, Enzi followed her. With only Milo and Viserys in the alley to see her, she changed from tiger to hawk and took off, circling over the city as the panther leaped to and from the rooftops below. She was surprised to see Viserys pursue them as well, keeping a small distance behind the princess until she disappeared at the castle. Enzi took note of where she had vanished, and then swooped back to the alley and assumed her normal human form. Milo was waiting with Duff at his side. "You okay?" he asked. "Yeah," Enzi answered. "You?" Milo nodded. He noticed blood running down her arm and tugged her wrist until she extended her arm to let him see. She studied his face as he examined her wound. "So that girl was your..." She trailed off. "It's not deep," he said of the wound, not looking up. "Milo." He sighed and met her eyes. "Yes. My sister." Enzi whistled. "Small world." They both fell silent when Duff woofed softly. Viserys was returning. "Learn anything interesting?" Milo asked. Barn-BumThey are going to ruin everything! Laila thought angrily. Ilene can now not be the one to kill the king. She would have to. She took a small vile and crept down the passage to the kings door. It was a secret entrance not even the guards knew about she took the powder and breathed it into the room. Then took off running. They would think he died in his sleep. She reached her room and Maya was waiting for her. She left the castle in a hurry, Maya's long stride carrying her quickly. She reached the town square were few people noticed a panther. She soon became lost in the crowd. ooc: If anyone has a problem with me killing the king I shall edit this post But I think it will make a better story. CrazyHorseGirl1773Jaime followed Terrence to the alley, and stopped at the entrance. Sure enough, the two men from the inn that morning were there with a young woman he didn't recognize. Laila was not with them. He had been foolish, this whole thing could have been a trick to get him away from the castle and away from the king. He gripped his sword hilt, prepared for anything. QHRiderViserys was about to answer Milo's question when he felt a presence behind them. He turned, hand going to his sword hilt, to see the leader of the city watch. Viserys relaxed his grip. "You missed all the fun," he told the watchman. CrazyHorseGirl1773He smirked, hoping it would hide his confusion. "Damn, I was really looking forward to hitting that bitch." He kept his grip on the hilt of his sword. On Par"My fault," Terrence spoke up. Seemed nobody noticed him until he said something. "Where's her High-Cruelty? We came to take her back to the castle, but....you let her go?" He glanced around the alley, there was no sign of the second cat. But there was a woman, now. He was puzzled for a minute, and then all the clues fell together. The bar, the beggar, the cat, the girl, the eyes. Dagger was being accompanied by a changling. Terrence attempted to catch her eye. QHRider"She went back to the castle," Viserys said. "She got in through a hidden passage in the back." He glanced from the smaller man back to the watchman. "I suspect she's murdering her father, if she has not already done so." On ParTerrence sat down hard and rested his chin in his hands. They had run out on this hairbrained mission to prevent that, when it seemed they had only assisted in the probable murder of the king. "Jaime, does the king have a body guard at ALL times? Even when sleeping and bathing?" Terrence was still trying to hold onto a little hope. CrazyHorseGirl1773Jaime nodded, "As far as I know, yes. But you were right in thinking Laila would go about it in an underhanded way." Jaime wanted to punch something, mostly himself. If he had stayed at the castle, there would've been a chance to stop Laila. If she took the throne... He didn't even want to think about it. On Par"Well, now what?" Terrence asked into the air. He looked toward Cloak and Dagger. And Changling. "Can you guys think of anything? I can get you pretty much anywhere in the castle." QHRider"Judging but what we've seen of her tonight, I doubt she'll hold it long," Viserys said. "People are already unhappy, and she doesn't seem the type to consider her subjects over much." He grinned. "Nor those who are in a position to protect her." He raised an eyebrow at the watchman. zeesgirlEnzi looked between Milo, Viserys, and the two strangers. "Why now?" she asked. "Why would the princess want to kill her father tonight?" QHRider"So no one has the chance to warn him. She has to act now while she still has surprise on her side. Otherwise he'll have her killed for treason," Viserys explained. CrazyHorseGirl1773"He'll have just about anyone killed for treason," Jaime grumbled. He knew just how many people the king had murdered, he'd been the one to swing the sword. E. RiderAs Ilene entered her room she closed the door. The tower was strangely quiet. Usually the Princess was yelling for her dinner. She set her bouquet in a glass of water and set them near the window. zeesgirl"Yes, but what was she doing out here tonight in the first place, telling strangers her plans for murder?" Enzi persisted. "Or is wandering around the city picking fights normal behavior for her?" She leaned into Milo. "The loyalist rebels..." she said quietly. "What if they were planning something, and she knew about it? What if that's why she acted now?" Milo thought for a moment. Then, to the watchman, he asked, "Do you know anything about an underground organization loyal to the Dragonbournes?" CrazyHorseGirl1773Jaime raised his eyebrows, and shook his head. "No, the only rumors I hear are from lords, I'm not very.... Popular with the people of the city." This was the first he'd heard of any underground group, but it wasn't the rebels that surprised him, it was the fact that there was a group still loyal to the Dragonbournes. Sure, there had been rumors of a surviving heir, but they were just that, rumors. QHRiderViserys folded his arms. Enzi's guess seemed logical enough to him. He looked at the smaller man. "What about you?" he asked. "You seem to have a pretty good idea of what's going on in the city. Have you heard anything?" zeesgirlMilo bit his lip. He shouldn't have mentioned the group to the watchman. He looked around Jaime to the young stranger as Viserys addressed him. "Yeah, any other groups who might be vying for the throne, then?" he added. "Lords or Ladies in the court, knights, anyone? If others were planning to overthrow the king soon, it would explain why the princess was out tonight." Barn-BumNight had fallen and the square had cleared out. No one knew of her fathers passing. Laila felt some what deflated. Killing him had not brought back her mother or her brother like she had foolishly hoped. She wandered back to the ally not sure if the group was still there. They were. With two new people one that she knew. First thing tomorrow his head will be on the chopping block she though. Staying in the shadows. "Ah good your still here" She said Maya and her stepping into the ally. "I don't know if the news has reached yet..." She trailed off a foolish grin on her face. "But I will now like to be addressed Queen Laila" Laila raised her hands. "Now don't attack me" She said. "I have a reason, not for power, or money, but to avenge my brother and my mother, they had no reason to die!" QHRider "And now you've just admitted to murder in front of five witnesses," Viserys said. "You really aren't that bright, are you?" Barn-Bum"Ahh now I never said I did, and like anyone will believe you" QHRiderViserys chuckled. "Whether or not you did it, you clearly planed this vengeance out. That makes you responsible." He tilted his head. "How on earth do you expect to rule when you don't even know your own kingdom's laws?" Barn-BumLaila shurrged. "My plan to rule is listen to the people and gain more land" She said. "Laws are for wimps, laws are meant to be broken" zeesgirlMilo shifted his weight uncomfortably. He had never imagined Laila would have taken his "death" so hard. She made it sound like their father had murdered him in his sleep. Milo had been framed for theft, but he killed the man who had set him up. As unfair as it seemed, according to the law, he had deserved his sentence. But apparently the law was not important to Laila. CrazyHorseGirl1773Jaime had to laugh, it was not a friendly laugh. "You're a fool," He said, putting his hand on his sword hilt again out of habit. "Do you know what happens to little girls like you without laws to protect them?" His voice was cold. "I do. Without the threat of losing a hand, or a head, there won't be many subjects left for you to rule." Barn-BumLaila laughed a cold evil laugh. "We will see about that," She said stroking Maya. QHRiderLaws were for wimps? Laws that his family, rulers going back centuries, had put in place to protect their people, to keep them safe? To ensure justice? "You will be queen over my dead body," Viserys spat. He turned to the watchman. "It appears a great crime has been committed. The lawful course of action would be to bring her to justice." CrazyHorseGirl1773 "You make a good point," Jaime grinned devilishly, and unsheathed his sword. zeesgirlMilo glanced sideways at Jaime when he made a comment about losing hands. He traced the curve of his hook with his fingertips. He never ceased to eye Laila. He wondered if it was true, if she had really just killed their father. Was it foolish for him to wonder, perhaps to hope, that she wouldn't have simply done the same to him? When Jaime raised his sword, Milo grew tense. He would help them subdue her if they could, but he was not about to let anyone kill his sister, even if she was completely mad. QHRiderViserys grinned and, standing beside the watchman, drew his own sword. E. RiderIlene woke up from her nap feeling strangely alone. WHy didn't she hear the Princess yelling? Something was wrong. On Parooc: Aw, I missed the party. So I'm taking this back a few hours, for the purpose of not ending the RP by killing everyone before page 30. XD "Aye," Terrence nodded slowly. "There was an old guard, or somebody, who used to be in the dungeon. He was thrown there while I was, err, before I came to the castle. I don't know what his crime was. I befriended him, and most of the other prisoners when I used to sing to them. Then, I, I helped him escape. It was completely clean," he said in defense, seeing Jaime's knowing scowl. "No one was harmed, and I wasn't caught, but Cellach banned me from the dungeon's, fearing I would encite the prisoners." He stood. "That was over a year ago. I haven't seen him since; dead or alive." Mentally, Terrence crossed his fingers in the hopes that no one would suspect that he hadn't told the whole truth. ooc: Fasting forward now. XD So the king was dead, after all. Terrence wondered why there hadn't been an uproar yet. Courtcliffe was not going to be safe for Cloak and Dagger when the city found out their king had been slain on the same day two strangers appeared and were party to a small riot. Not that the townspeople felt any real devotion to the king, but people were afraid of change. Terrence was getting incredibly nervous. He felt for the small bow he had tucked under his shirt on impulse when he'd darted from the woods. He never carried a weapon that could kill a person; he didn't have the nerve. Instead he carried his specially crafted arrows that would severely inconvenience a person for the next hour after being shot. Barn-BumLaila took a vial of liquid from her robe and slowly gulped it down. Then she dropped it the glass shattered. Laila drew her own sword prepared for yet another brawl. They guy with the dogs eyes never left her. She looked up at him there eyes meeting. On ParTerrence wiped his palms on his vest and selected two arrows, one each for Laila and Maya. They had wanted to detain the princess, so he would help out if he could. His weapon was incredibly short, just eighteen inches from tip to tip. No one ever took it seriously, on account that a human bow of the same dimensions could barely shoot three yards. As expected, Laila saw him and laughed. He fired off his arrows in quick succession. One landed squarely between the panther's eyes, the other would have missed entirely if the princess had not sidestepped in surprise. As it was, it made solid contact with her left hip. A light green substance sprang from the arrowhead and shaft, quickly entangling both females. Laila's sword arm was pinned to her side. Her potion could not help, on account that she had not been physically injured by the arrow. Barn-BumLaila's world started spinning she turned on her heal her vison blury with black dots with a long angry scream she chucked her knife at the stupid servant. Maya was already laying on the ground. "What did you do to her?" Laila screamed. ''Ill kill you" She said. ooc:What do the arrows do? On Par Ooc: The entire arrow explodes on contact into sticky vine-ish stuff that entangles the unfortunate target in a sort of sticky web. They have no chemical effect. Barn-Bumooc: Ok ignore my last post Laila watched in horror as green goo surged up her body. She let out a angry scream and watched as she threw her knife. It landed in the servants shoulder. Then the web entaglned her hands. Maya had already been trapped in the web. On ParTerrence gasped and sat down hard, clutching his shoulder. He stared from face to face, his eyes pleading for help. He didn't look down, though; he knew he would faint if he saw a knife sticking out of his shoulder. Barn-BumLaila smiled even though a web had entangled her. That would teach the servant. zeesgirlWhen Laila looked into his face, Milo thought for a moment that he saw a flicker of recognition in her eyes, but he pushed aside his worries about being found out when the boy from the bar shot his strange arrows and incapacitated the princess, getting a knife stuck in him in the process. Trusting Enzi, Viserys, and Jaime could handle Laila and the panther, Milo turned his attention to the fallen stranger. "You're okay, you're okay, just breathe," he said softly, kneeling at his side. "Just look at me, okay? Look at me and breathe." He looked at the knife tip buried in the boy's shoulder. After losing his hand, Milo had been left by an anonymous stranger at the house of a healer a great distance from Courtcliff. He'd lived there for nearly a year, first fighting for his life against infection, then learning to cope without his right hand. During that time, he'd taken to assisting the healer with patients whenever he could, and he'd learned a good deal from him. This wound wasn't bleeding enough to have hit an artery, and it didn't look deep enough to cause permanent damage to the muscles in the boy's shoulder. Providing there was no infection, the boy would be right as rain within a couple weeks. Milo looked into his face, which had drained of color, and his green eyes were slightly unfocused. "Listen, you're going to be fine, okay? Just breathe." (ooc: @barn-bum, if you want Laila to recognize him, I don't care, up to you. But if she does, can she keep it a secret, perhaps, and then reveal it later or something? Just thinking that could be interesting.) On ParTrying not to panic, he gripped Dagger's wrist, just above his hook, and held it tightly. He stared into the stranger's eyes, fighting to keep calm. QHRiderHook seemed to know what he was doing, so Viserys stepped over to the entangled princess, sword still in hand. Using the flat of his blade, he struck her behind the knee, hard enough that she crumpled to her knees. Only then did he sheathe his sword and begin searching her, for hidden weapons or other potions. On ParTerrence felt his panic subsiding, and he hadn't died yet, so maybe he would be alright after all. He looked up at the stranger bending over him. "The web will lose it's strength in a little less than an hour," he said, fighting to keep his voice calm. "Can we get out of the street, please?" CrazyHorseGirl1773Jaime sheathed his sword again with a sigh. "Magic," he grumbled. He had never liked magic, it made him nervous. He didn't know how to fight magic, it wasn't something you could just hit with a sword. On Par"But it's good magic," Terrence protested weakly, trying to see around Dagger. QHRiderViserys found several knives and daggers and a few extra potions on Laila. He put them all on his person. "I think that's her unarmed," he said. He looked up at the watchman. "Where should we bring her?" zeesgirlMilo winced when the boy seized his wrist. "Easy, now," he said. As the youth began to calm down, his vice grip loosened. Milo looked over to the princess on the ground and up at Viserys and Jaime. (ooc:Did they ever learn Jaime's name, either? I think I just got tired of writing "the watchman.") "He's right," Milo said. "We need to get out of here and figure out what to do with her." He looked back at the boy. "What's your name, eh?" he asked. On Par"Terrence." He offered a bloodied right hand and attempted a smile. "Pleased to meet you, ah...who are you?" CrazyHorseGirl1773Jaime shrugged. "We don't want word getting around that we have her, so the prison wouldn't be the best choice." Jaime ran a hand through his hair. "We could take her back to the castle, keep her in her quarters there." Jaime glanced at the cloaked man. "Who are you people, anyway?" QHRiderViserys bit his lip. He owed Terrace and the watchman, but he wasn't sure he wanted to reveal himself in front of Laila. "People with terrible luck, that's who," he said. He pulled Laila to her feet. zeesgirl Milo used his left hand to grip Terrence's right in the awkward sort of handshake that he'd become accustomed to during three years without a right hand. He was glad that Viserys had somewhat spared them from an introduction. "Very unlucky," he added. He looked over at Laila, uncertain whether she had realized yet who he was. "Hook, call him Hook," said Enzi helpfully. Milo glared at her. She grinned at him before looking back to the strangers. "I'm Enzi." On Par"Very well, Hook, thank you." He shifted his body so he could see the changling. "It is an honor to meet you in person, Enzi," he said formally, his eyes darting to the tangled panther and back. "Jaime, did I just shoot the heir to the throne with an arrow?" he asked, not quite believing his rash actions. "So....how do we go about accusing her of murder without looking like we're attempting to frame her?" E. RiderIlene was feeling quite uneasy. Something was going on and she hadn't a clue what it was. The castle seemed completely empty. She sat on her bed with her hands folded not knowing what to do. She prayed everything was alright. It must have to do with whatever Terrence and Jaime had discussed. CrazyHorseGirl1773"Hook..." Jaime said, looking over Milo, "How appropriate. I'm Jaime." He looked over to Terrence when he was addressed and grinned, "Yes, my friend, you did." QHRider"One problem at a time, Terrence," Viserys said. "Let's get her to the castle first." CrazyHorseGirl1773"How are we going to get her through the city unnoticed?" Jaime asked, "A screaming, tied up princess isn't exactly inconspicuous." QHRiderJaime had a point. However, he also had a horse. "Gag her, wrap her in a cloak, put her on the horse, and pretend she's luggage?" he suggested. zeesgirlE. Rider (7/13/2012)Ilene was feeling quite uneasy. Something was going on and she hadn't a clue what it was. The castle seemed completely empty. She sat on her bed with her hands folded not knowing what to do. She prayed everything was alright. It must have to do with whatever Terrence and Jaime had discussed. ooc: Perhaps since you've been left alone in the castle to be bored, you could find the murdered king? (or even save him before he dies, if you really want to shake things up) Enzi raised her eyebrows at Terrence's formal greeting. She nudged Milo. "The young men in this city are so polite. I hope you're taking note." She looked back to Terrence. He seemed to have put together the fact that she had recently been a tiger, but she didn't really mind. He had helped them twice already, so he seemed to be on their side, whatever side that was, and he looked sensible enough not to shout the secret of her skills to the rooftops. "Nice to meet you, too, Terrence." E. RiderIlene made her way down to the enterence of the castle where she sat in a chair. Maybe she would catch someone coming in and ask them what was going on. Whatever it was was making her very uneasy, and scared. The castle was growing darker. Ilene hugged her knees her layed her head down. It was getting late, she hoped someone would come soon. CrazyHorseGirl1773An evil grin slipped onto Jaime's face. "I like the way you think." (End page 30)

E. Rider Ilene decided to walk around the castle, maybe she'd find someone. The servants were probably sleeping by now. She wandered into the library and looked around. She hadn't been in here in forever. It had seemed huge when she was little, and it still was. She walked over to a book and fingered through the pages. She put the book back but it fell backwards. She reached her hand to get it but it went strait through. She looked, and her eyes widened as she beheld a small door. She frantically threw books off of the shelf till it revealed a small door in the wall. She reached and opened the door and there was a rope. She pulled the rope, and the whole shelf seemed to magically move revealing a passage way with stairs. QHRider Grinning back, Viserys drew his dagger and cut a long strip of cloth from the hem of his tunic. After twisting it quickly, he said, "Open wide, your Highness," and slipped the gag in her mouth, tying it into place.
E. Rider Ilene cautiously walked down the dark stairs holding her lantern. Her heart beat fast. She knew almost all the passage ways in the castle. She had spent all her free time exploring the castle as a child, but she had never been in this one...not one that led underground as this one seemed too. She felt cold and scared. She shivered and hugged herself trying to keep warm. She wrinkled her nose as a very foul smell entered her nostrils. She covered her nose as she came to the end of the stairs. The smell was much stronger. She lifted her lantern higher to see what the room was like. There was a crate of books in one corner. Beside it...an empty barrel. She moved the lamp a little to the middle of the room. Rats suddenly scattered back into the darkness, making her shriek with surprise. Finally she lifted her lantern to see the other corner. There was a bed...with a big lump in it. Whatever it was, it was covered in blankets. She walked over too the bed slowly and cautiously. She stopped. The smell was overpowering. She slowly pulled by the covers revealing a dead body. Two eyes stared straight at her. She screamed, dropping the lantern which went out. Darkness.
CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime smiled, he couldn't be happier that the princess was gagged. He'd spent too long listening to her prattle, though her father was much worse. He retrieved his big palomino mare from where she stood at the mouth of the alley.
Barn-Bum Laila hated them so much. She stared daggers at all of them but the boy with the dog. Something about his eyes were so familar. Maya was going crazy. Laila wanted to give her the command to shut upbut she was gagged.
E. Rider ooc: Hmm...why don't we pretend that the person Ilene found was someone else possibly posing as the King..but the King is really alive somewhere.....I don't know.. On Par Terrence wasn't quite sure how he felt about tying and gagging the princess. He decided not to dwell on it, and went instead to the tangled panther. He laid a hand on her shoulder and began singing softly. The great cat began to quiet, and slowly ceased her struggling. Several minutes later, Terrence looked up. "Where in the castle are we taking her? I have no quarters there."
Barn-Bum Maya let out a deep growl as the stranger touched her shoulder. Laila shot a warning look at Terrence. If he wanted his hand bitten off the he better keep it there. Laila struggled with all her strength. Such idiots. Marching into the castle with her.
zeesgirl "Should we just leave the panther here?" asked Enzi. "It'll get free when the vines disappear."
Barn-Bum Laila smiled. Yes. Do let Maya go. There was no chance that if they let Maya go she would disapear. She would attack them.
QHRider "She could hurt someone if left alone," Viserys pointed out. He sighed. "But I suppose getting the princess back to the castle is the more pressing matter at the moment."
Barn-Bum Laila jumped around madly. Trying to knock over someone. It was usless but still.
zeesgirl "I'll stay and keep an eye on her," said Enzi. Milo looked at her sharply. She crossed her arms. "What? I can handle a tied-up cat by myself. You should go with them. I'll catch up later."
QHRider "Now now, your Highness. That's not going to do you any good," Viserys said. He pulled his cloak off, hoping no one present would recognize his white blond hair as a sign of his ancestry, and dropped his cloak on Laila, wrapping her up into an oddly shaped package, and lifting her onto the palomino's back.
On Par "We can't kill her," Terrence said decisively, still sitting by the panther. "I'm sure there's an enclosure in the castle for her. Doesn't the princess have a servant that sometimes cares for Maya?"
ooc: thinking Dd's character Ashleigh, whenever she gets back.
Edit: you guys ninjad me. I hate using my phone. Ok, instead, Terrence gives Enzi his last tangle arrow. Barn-Bum Laila clenched her fist. She would make sure all of them had a slow painful death. CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime's eyes widened as the man who had yet to introduce himself removed his cloak, revealing his silver hair. Jaime swore, what had he gotten himself into? He caught a glimpse of violet eyes. The hair, the eyes, this man was a Dragonbourne. The rumors were true. Jaime grabbed the man's arm. "Who are you??"
zeesgirl Milo stood and returned his hand to the hilt of his knife. If Jaime and Viserys started fighting, he wasn't sure who he would want to see win. He'd rather they didn't cross blades at all, at least not until they had figured out what to do with Laila. "Jaime, questions can wait," he said. "We have less than an hour to get the princess back to the castle and find out if the king is really dead." He looked down at Terrence. "And you're going to need somewhere to rest. We need to get that knife out of your shoulder, which I'm afraid won't be fun at all." QHRider Viserys tried to pull free, but Jaime's grip was like a bear trap. He met the older man's eyes and swallowed. Jaime already knew. "I am Viserys Dragonbourne. I am the rightful king of Rharewin." CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime released Viserys roughly. He pushed his hair back, out of his face, and took a deep breath. "It's- Gods, I really hope you aren't as nuts as your dad was."
QHRider Viserys drew himself up to his full height, which wasn't nearly as impressive as Jaime's. "He was not," he protested, but Hook's words brought him back. "We should go now."
On Par Terrence stood, swaying. "Can we please not kill each other off right now? And did you have to ask that in front of her?" He waved a hand at the awkward bundle on Jaime's horse, still clutching his shoulder with his other hand. QHRider "I don't think it will stay a secret long," Viserys said. He grabbed Jaime's horse by the bridle and clucked, leading her towards the castle.
CrazyHorseGirl1773 "Wait," Jaime said, removing his own cloak, "Take this." He tossed Viserys the cloak. "It might not be good to reveal yourself to the general public yet."
On Par Terrence stepped after Viserys, and promptly blacked out. He managed to keep consciousness long enough to twist his body so he fell on his good shoulder.
QHRider Viserys caught the cloak. "How thoughtful of you." It was cleaner than the one wrapped around Laila, which he didn't mind at all. He pulled it on and tugged the hood up over his white hair. zeesgirl Milo released the breath that he didn't realize he'd been holding. It sounded like there would still be a fight, but at least it had been postponed. He started after Viserys and the horse, holding out his arm to Terrence for support if he wanted it. Even if the wound wasn't life threatening, the guy had a blade sticking a couple inches into his shoulder, and he had lost a lot of blood at this point. But instead of accepting the help, Terrence stood, wobbled and passed out. Milo didn't move quickly enough to catch his fall. Luckily Terrence hadn't fallen onto the knife blade. "Well damn," muttered Milo. He took advantage of Terrence's unconsciousness to pull the blade from his shoulder, pressing his hand down hard on the wound underneath.
*edit* I'm just two minutes too late! lol poor Terrence. Fixing it to account for his fainting episode, lol.
QHRider Viserys caught sight of Terrance collapsing. How inconvenient. "Someone's going to have to carry him now." CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime sighed. He lifted Terrence easily, and swung him onto Honor's rump, behind the princess. "There. Let's go." Jaime had to admit he'd gotten a little fond of the quirky handyman. zeesgirl Milo glanced back at Enzi. "Stay out of trouble. Please?" Enzi curtsied. "But of course. I'll see you later," she said. She sat down in the alley, a few paces away from the tightly bound panther. With Duff at his heels, Milo followed Viserys and Jaime toward the castle. QHRider It had been fifteen years since he'd been to the castle, and this wasn't quite how Viserys had expected to be going home. He smiled. But he'd take it.
On Par Puck raised his head, alarmed. He bolted toward the town. The red fox sized up the city wall as he approached. It was too tall to jump, so he altered his approach and aimed for a lazy gate-guard. He bounded off the man's shoulders and onto the walltop, then leapt from roof to roof until he spied the castle gate. The small creature avoided the city whenever he could, but he sensed that Terrence was in trouble. He crouched on a rooftop, eyeing a small group coming down the street with two large bundles draped over a horse.
Barn-Bum Laila hardly cared that he was a Dragonbourne. She cared that they hadn't taken Maya. She squirmed around quite a bit.
On Par Puck crouched and watched the small group approach. He sniffed the air again; the second lump on the horse's back was definitely Terrence. He couldn't see the boy's face, but that made little difference to the fox. All humans looked alike to him. As the horse passed him, Puck jumped down and landed lightly on the small of Terrence's back, causing several exclamations from the other humans. Puck smelled the fresh blood on Terrence, and identified the same smell on the one handed man. He bared his teeth and growled at him.
E. Rider Ilene fumbled to stand up. She was very scared and quite shaken up. Was the body the king? She stood up with her hands straight out in front of her to find her way around. She moved slowly and cautiously. She tripped over something in the floor, hitting her hea on the first step. Her head began throbbing. She lay there trying to catch her breath. She pushed herself up and tried to stand straight. She felt very dizzy, but somehow she managed to walk up the first few steps before finally dropping to hands and knees and crawling up. Air. Air. She had to get fresh air. The smell was overpowering now. Air.
zeesgirl Milo stepped back, startled, as a small orange creature leaped out of seemingly nowhere onto Terrence's unconscious form. What was a fox doing in the middle of the city? It snarled at him. Milo looked at Jaime and Viserys but they seemed as baffled as he was. He drew his knife and tried to nudge the bristling fox off of Terrence with the flat of the blade. Both the boy and the princess would be helpless if the creature spooked Jaime's horse.
Barn-Bum Laila could sense something was wrong. She wanted this gag off now. QHRider Viserys held on to the mare's bridle when the little fox sprang onto her back. The big palomino didn't seem much bothered. The fox did not seem to like Hook at all. "Let it be," Viserys said. "I don't think it'll leave us alone, not the way this night's going."
CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime gave Honor a well deserved pat on the neck for not spooking at the fox. "Lost princes, magic, weird animals, what is it with this city?" He muttered.
E. Rider Ilene crawled up the remaining steps, her head still throbbing wildly. She could finally see the light, and the smell wasn't so strong now. She wanted to puke but she just kept swallowing, hoping she wouldn't. She finally got to the top. She stood up and walked a step. Suddenly her knees gave way and everything went dark. She collapsed in a heap on the floor.
On Par Terrence opened his eyes, unable to discern where he was or why he was there. He felt very rested, except for a sharp, throbbing pain in his shoulder. Then he remembered. He stared down at the cobblestones and inhaled. He was definitely lying over a standing horse, and there was a small weight on his back. An unstable small weight.
He grunted; his vocal chords weren't working properly. "Will somebody help me down," he managed, a bit irritated. "And what did you put on my back?"
QHRider "We didn't put anything on you," Viserys said. "Your little fox friend put himself there. He seems opposed to the idea of getting off."
On Par "Puck, get off my back." With the initial euphoria gone, Terrence was feeling crabby. He clutched at his shoulder with his good hand and pressed on the bandage he found there. "Get off, darn you. I need to stand up!" He could tell the small fox was afraid, but Terrence was going to black out again if he didn't get his head elevated a bit.
Puck sidestepped to the other large bundle. It moved underneath him. He understood that Terrence needed some help from the humans, but he wasn't happy about it, especially since one had Terrence's blood all over his hands. He sat gingerly and stopped snarling.
Terrence began sliding backwards, causing his shoulder to feel as if it were exploding from the inside. He gasped in pain and swore.
Barn-Bum Laila squirmed as she felt the small animal land on her back.
QHRider Viserys halted Jaime's mare and put a hand on Terrence. "Easy now." He wasn't sure if Terrence should be walking or not yet.
E. Rider Ilene woke up confused. Then it seemed as though everything came back to her. She had to get the passage covered up again. She stood up slowly. Feeling dizzy again she just stood there hoping it would go away. Her vision was slightly blurry but she had to cover up the passage way. She put her hand behind the bookshelf and pulled the rope. The shelf slid over, covering the tunnel. She closed the door with the rope and began putting the books on the shelf again one by one. She was feeling even more sick to her stomach now. She finished and quickly stumbled over to a chair. On Par "Help me up, darn you! All the blood is rushing to my head and shoulder, and I can hardly see a bloody thing!" "Thank you," Terrence said teresly, finally standing. He leaned heavily on Viserys and tried to control his breathing. "Jaime, where are we taking her?" CrazyHorseGirl1773 "Her quarters, I s'pose. We can lock her in there," Jaime said, scratching his head. "Though getting her in there unnoticed might be a challenge." On Par Terrence swayed. "I can get us in, no problem. The horse, though....I don't think she goes up stairs." He gestured to their royal baggage. "So somebody's going to have to carry her and she needs to not squirm. Jaime, would you be so obliged to see that she stays still?" Terrence got the feeling Jaime was disappointed that he hadn't gotten to knock her royal highness on the head.
E. Rider Ilene decided to go to the Princess's room. Maybe someone would be in there cleaning....or the Princess would be in there. It was late and the Princess would probably be sleeping but she needed help. She knew she probably needed medical attention. She fumbled out of the library and down the hall towards the stairs.
QHRider Viserys held tighter onto Terrence. He didn't want him to fall down. Though Viserys probably knew the castle's many secret passages better than Terrence, he had no idea which room was the princess'.
CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime grinned. "Gladly." He unsheathed his sword and brought the pommel down on the princess's head. Oh, how many years had he been wanting to do that?
E. Rider Ilene walked up the stairs, stopping every once in a while to rest or wait for a dizzy spell to pass. She reached the top of the stairs and she wanted to just lie on the floor but she knew she must get help. She rested again but soon continued on till she reached the Princess's room. She fell at the door but knocked. and knocked. No answer. She stood up and opened the door. Surprised to find on one there she looked around. She couldn't think straight anyway so she used her last bit of energy to walk over to the bed, where she layed down. She wouldn't have had a chance of anyone finding her in the passage way, but here, someone was sure to find her.
CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime took Honor's reins from Viserys as they neared the castle. "Keep your head down," He whispered as they passed through the gates. Two stable boys met them to take the horse back to the stable, one reaching for the reins and the other for the disguised princess. "Ah, I'll take care of that," Jaime said to the boy with a smile, then slipped the princess off of Honor's back and tossed her over one shoulder. QHRider Viserys ducked his head at Jaime's whisper, careful to keep a firm grip on Terrence. He glanced back at Hook to make sure the other man was still with them.
On Par Terrence stood a little straighter. Now that the initial dizziness had worn off, he felt much more capable, providing that he didn't move too quickly. "Alright, Puck." Terrence nodded at the fox, who darted ahead. He let go of Viserys entirely, but stayed close, just in case. He led the group toward the servant's entrance and into the kitchen. It was quite late, and all the cooks were off-duty except the night chef, whom Terrence knew well. "Good evening," Terrence said cheerfully. "I was hoping to find a bit of food for my friends and I."
Barn-Bum The cook (whats her name?) Crossed her arms. "Well that ain't my problem" She grumbled flipping a sausage. "Listen, Terrence, I would help you but I have to make Laila's breakfast"
On Par "Oh, come now, you old grouch. Her royal highness doesn't eat breakfast for another eight hours! You know how she likes to sleep in." Terrence knew the old cook was a softy beneath we her grumpy exterior. "Besides," He went on, "if you don't feel like giving us any measly scraps, I won't feel very inclined to give you these." The thin boy reached into his shirt and withdrew a number of colorful wildflowers. He waved them gently under the cook's nose. "But I suppose I'll have to give them to some other good lady, eh guys?" He looked at his companions. "Such a pity. You can't get these in the city, you know. They only grow in a certain part of the forest. Ah well, perhaps the princess would like them better. Come on, then." He started for the door. Barn-Bum "Ahh you boy come back here" She said a frown on her face but her eyes twinkled. "You can have some bacon its back there on the stove" She said smiling a little but she crossed her arms.
Laila thrased about as Jaime put her on his shoulder
"Watcha got there?" The cook asked pointing to the large moving package on Jaime's shoulder. On Par "A present for the princess," Terrence said, winking slyly. "Don't tell anyone. It's a big surprise that's been in the works for several months." He clucked his tongue. "It'd be a royal shame to ruin it after so much planning." he scooped a large amount of bacon into a vegetable sack. He left the cook fingering the flowers and led the small group to the servants staircase. Puck was waitin there. Terrence studied him for a moment, then turned to Viserys. "The way is clear up to the princess' hall.". He Tossed the sack to Hook and leaned against the stone wall, breathing heavily.
E. Rider Ilene slept for several hours. Still feeling the same every time she woke up. She still felt dizzy and sick to her stomach and her head felt like it would explode. She leaned against the satin pillows and closed her eyes. Hoping, praying they would find her soon. She had to tell them about the body too...
QHRider Giving Terrence a worried look, Viserys turned to Jaime. "Come on," he said, starting up the stairs. zeesgirl Milo caught the sack of food with his hook to avoid handling it with his hand, which was still wet with Terrence's blood (ewwww). He followed Viserys up the stairs. It wouldn't do to let the others know that he could have found Laila's chambers blindfolded. He stepped carefully around the fox at the top of the stairs. It snarled at him as he passed. CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime followed the two men up the stairs, which turned out to be a challenge with Laila thrashing about on his shoulder. "It seems our princess as woken up." He must not have hit her hard enough.
QHRider "We're almost there," Viserys said. He hoped the princess couldn't cause too much trouble in the mean time. They reached the top of the stairs, and Viserys opened the door. Scowling, he stepped in. "This is my room," he said. Then he noticed someone on the bed. "Uh-oh." He went to investigate. A young woman, very pale, was asleep. "Interesting."
CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime threw Laila onto the floor and joined Viserys at the edge of the bed. "It's Ilene. What is she doing in here?" On Par Terrence knelt in the hall, gritting his teeth. "Puck, Hook is a friend." He allowed the fox to sniff his bandage. Then he entered the room, where he saw Viserys observing a person on the pincess's bed. "What in the name of-- Ilene!" He turned to Hook. "Can you help her?"
E. Rider Hearing Voices Ilene woke up. She saw Jaime looking down on her and Terrence...and someone she hadn't met before. She sighed and smiled with relief that they were here. "Jaime....Terrence..." she winced with pain as her head began throbbing. "I'm so glad you are here....in the library...behind the biggest shelf...a passage way.." She put her hand on the giant bruse on her head. She felt terrible...but she had to tell them "There is a body... " she winced at the pain and the awful memory of the eyes looking at her. "I was so scared..." she leaned back on the pillow and shut her eyes falling to sleep again. She returned to a deep yet restless sleep. QHRider Viserys stared at the girl. "What the--?" He looked at Jaime. This night was getting weirder and weirder.
CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime exchanged a look with Viserys. "The body is probably the king's, but we should be certain." E. Rider Ilene lie there. Nightmares of the face flashed before her over and over again. She woke up again. Everyone was still there. So was the pain.
QHRider "I know the passageway she's talking about." It would be a risk for him to move about the castle by himself, but if it wasn't the king he wouldn't mind the opportunity to fix that.
E. Rider Realizing they were talking about the passage way Ilene found some strength to sit up. "It's dark down there...be careful. And watch your step. There's stuff all over the floor...that's how I got hurt. I fell and hurt my head...and it stinks terribly." she wanted to get up and go with them but she didn't want to see the face again.
zeesgirl Milo leaned forward to look closer at the girl just as she lost consciousness again. He flipped over her hand with his hook and tried to wipe the blood off his hand on his pants before feeling for a pulse in her wrist. "She doesn't seem to be sick or injured beyond getting hit in the head," he said. "We should find this body." He knew exactly which hidden passage the girl meant. He wanted to sprint there and learn if it was true, if his father was really dead, but he restrained himself. "Where's the library?" he asked. The library, where he'd spent countless hours as a child-- exploring, reading, harassing his father, playing with Laila. As if he needed directions.
*edit* Look at all the posting ninjas! Anywho, pretend this happened between right before she woke back up.
QHRider "This way," Viserys said, going for the door, hoping no one would follow him.
zeesgirl Milo left Laila's chambers at Viserys's heels, leaving Jaime and Terrence to deal with the princess and the young woman, Ilene.
E. Rider Viserys and Milo left the room. Ilene shoved the memory of the face to the back of her mind and tried to think of something happier. Then she got confused....where was the Princess?
On Par "Ilene, please rest. I'll get you some water." Ilene's face was a sickly pale green color. It didn't look to him like she was only injured from a bump on the head. "Jaime, is the princess awake? Maybe we can find out a bit more about how she, ah, did it," he finished, not wanting to alarm Ilene. He was hoping that Laila hadn't realized Ilene was in the room, she could be a powerful witness if Laila started talking about the murder. QHRider Viserys lead the way down into the castle. Everything the same, but still so different, enough that he was slightly disoriented. But once in the library everything was just as in his memory. So was the way into the passage. "Watch your step," he told Hook, lighting a lamp someone had left on a nearby table and heading down into the dark.
CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime looked from Ilene, to Terrence, then to the princess on the floor. What was he supposed to do with her? It wouldn't be good to drag an innocent girl like Ilene into this, but Terrence's magic would wear off soon and leave Laila free to run around and stab people. He glanced up at Terrence when the boy spoke. "She is. However, right now might not be the best time to speak with her. You know how she gets after she wakes up."
E. Rider Ilene could see something was bothering Jaime. "What's wrong, Jaime?....and what's going on...I-I'm so confused..."
On Par Terrence handed her a glass of water. "Shh, Ilene. Your ordeal in the passage has made you ill, and you need to rest. Let your body heal itself." He crossed the room and tossed some bacon to Jaime. "Let's search the room for weapons or potions. If we find a healing potion, I just might drink it."
E. Rider Ilene gave Terrence a soft, kind smile as she took the glass of water, "Thank you," she said softly before she took a drink. The cool water ran down her throat. She hadn't noticed she was so thirsty. It was so refreshing. Ilene leaned back onto the pillows. The Princess's bed was very comfortable.
CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime nodded, and began rummaging through drawers. He found a small vial of clear liquid buried under some parchments. "Here," He tossed it to Terrence, "Not sure what it is."
zeesgirl Milo followed silently, his heart beating quickly in his chest. He knew that his father was far from a perfect king, but he was still his father, and if they found a body, Milo hoped it wouldn't be his.
On Par Terrence caught the vial and sniffed it. "I'm not sure I want to take the chance. What do you think Puck?" The fox trotted over from the door and examined the liquid. He raised his hackles and growled. "I think you're right." Terrence poured the vial into the sink. "Let's keep checking," he told Jaime. "I'll wager she has a few tricks in this room somwhere."
QHRider Taking the light had been a good idea. Ilene had been right: the floor was very slippery. Viserys padded around the worst of it, placing his feet carefully. The passage stunk. And then they came to the body, with its bulging, horrible eyes. It had enough of the features of the king that for a second Viserys thought it was him. But he crouched closer. "I don't think it's him," he said. Then he swore, standing back up. "That son of a bitch is still alive."
E. Rider Ilene smiled at the cute fox, "Is he yours, Terrence?" she said taking a drink of water. She watched the fox, smiling at its cuteness. She didn't want to sleep. The nightmares made her feel worse.
On Par Terrence smiled at the girl. "No, but I think he likes me pretty well. His name is Puck." He began examining the stone floor, looking for scratch marks that would indicate a loose stone.
zeesgirl Milo realized before Viserys did that the body on the floor was not the king. He let out the breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding, then scowled. The smell was truly horrific. Holding his sleeve over his mouth and nose, he leaned in for a closer look. He didn't recognize the man, but he assumed it was one of the body doubles that his father had started keeping around him when Milo was entering his teens. That had been when the new tensions around the throne had begun, and Cellach began to fear assassination around every corner. He always kept his plans vague and sent a man of similar size, build, and dress to each of the places where he was expected to be, so that potential assassins could never be sure of the location of the true target. But Milo guessed that neither this man or the real king had expected the assassination attempt to come from the princess.
E. Rider Ilene loonged for her pure. She longed to pluck the strings and sing too...but she didn't want to bother Terrence or Jaime. Whatever they were doing must be important. A bath, a change of clothes, and soup would be nice. The thought made her feel better.
QHRider Viserys' first instinct was to fix this mistake. Find the king and kill him. If he'd been alone he would have. No one else would have to know that Laila hadn't done it. But he had no idea what Hook would do; who's side he was really on. "What do you think the chances are that the king will believe us over his daughter?" he asked Hook. He turned to look at him. "I think we're either going to have to kill them both or get out of here fast."
On Par Puck trotted over and sat upright on the bed next to Ilene. It seemed to calm her a bit. Terrence continued scanning the floor, and after a few minutes, he found what he was looking for. He knelt on the floor, which attracted Jaime's attention, and began trying to jiggle the stones loose. The third stone budged a good bit, and Terrence dug his fingers under it and lifted it.
CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime raised his eyebrows as Terrence lifted a stone from the floor. He crouched down next to the boy. "Well, isn't that interesting?" On Par "I wonder where it leads?" Terrence stared down the dark, narrow stair.
zeesgirl Milo considered the question for a moment. If he revealed himself, would his father believe him, or would he believe Laila? He did not know. He looked back at Viserys. Even if Milo could convince his father that Laila had tried to assassinate him, it would not change the Dragonbourne son's ambitions for the throne. If he regained his father as an ally, he would gain both Laila and Viserys as rivals, even enemies.
But this was all beside the point. He wasn't here to reconcile with his family or to help a different long-lost prince regain Rharewin's throne. He was here to find out about the night three years ago when he lost his hand, and he wouldn't do that here in the castle. He would do it by finding the supposed underground group of rebels somewhere in the city.
"We don't know where the king is," said Milo. "and it will be dawn soon. We know we can get back into the castle when we have a better plan. I think we should leave."
Enzi sat in the alleyway, alone with the princess's panther. It was boring, and it seemed like an age before the vines binding the big cat began to dissolve. The panther began to thrash. Enzi got to her feet. The big cat was loose. She snarled at Enzi, who swiftly transformed into a raven and flapped up to a safe height. She would follow the panther back to the castle, and hopefully find Milo.
Barn-Bum Maya growled and took off towards the castle. Laila trashed about. So Ilene was in the room. She was so angry.
CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime grinned, "I don't know, but I'd like to find out." He glanced back at the princess and Ilene, he couldn't just leave them here, and Terrence was in no shape to protect anyone from Laila. On Par Terrence replaced the stone quietly. "Later," he said to Jaime. "Alright princess," he turned to the bound girl. "I'll take off your gag now, but if you scream or attempt to call for help, well." He gestured toward the big watchman. Without waiting for a response, he untied the gag from behind her head and let her spit out the rag.
Puck left Ilene and perched on the window sill.
QHRider "I think you're right." Viserys ground his teeth, but said nothing else, turning back where they'd come. "Let's get back."
Barn-Bum Laila smiled a cold smile. "Oh, don't worry I won't try to scream. What's the point? You'll all be dead by tomorrow" She was going to get her revenge. zeesgirl With a last glance at the body, Milo followed Viserys back up to the library, where he inhaled deep breaths of the fresh air. His thoughts turned to Laila. Was she loose yet? And Enzi, with the panther. He wouldn't be surprised if they were to arrive soon.
(ooc: Whoopsies, I seem to have misplaced Duff. We'll say she's still with Milo because she's afraid of Puck, lol)
CrazyHorseGirl1773 "Oh, if I had a piece of silver for every time I heard that," Jaime said with a grin. "Why, I'd be as rich as you, Princess."
E. Rider Ilene had enjoyed Puck's company. Ilene was suddenly frightened by the look in Laela's eye. She was dangerous and she hoped they wouldn't leave her alone with her. She probably hated it that Ilene was on her bed. Ilene watched Jaime and Terrence investigate and talk about what they had just discovered.
Barn-Bum Maya took the secret entrance in. Appearing in Laila's room. She growled. Laila was glad they kept her panther alive. "Get off my bed" She snarled at Ilene. "Now!!!"
CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime drew his sword as the panther appeared. He stepped between his companions and the snarling beast. He'd never fought a cat before, but at least it was something he could hit, unlike magic. zeesgirl Enzi followed at Maya's heels, an identical panther herself. That would confuse the princess. She growled in turn. She used her excellent sense of smell to try to detect Milo. His scent was in this room, but he was not. She assumed he would be able to look after himself. For now, Enzi concerned herself with keeping the princess's panther from eating anyone. E. Rider Ilene's heart beat fast. She looked at Terrence and Jaime before using her bit of strength to get up. She slowly walked towards a chair but she suddenly got extremely dizzy. Before she knew it she was on the floor. CrazyHorseGirl1773 A second cat appeared behind Maya. "You have got to be kidding me," Jaime grumbled. He turned at the sound of Ilene fainting, "You have got to be kidding me!" Barn-Bum "Thats better" Laila said signaling for Maya to jump onto the bed with her.
QHRider At the door of what had once been his room, Viserys paused. He pressed his ear to the crack. It was quiet, but not in a good way. Putting a hand on his sword, he pulled the door open and stepped through. zeesgirl Enzi leapt onto the bed as well, placing herself between the real panther and the fainting girl, who would probably be an easy target. Only once the watchman pointed his sword at her did it occur to Enzi that Jaime would not know that she was on his side. Hopefully Terrence would figure out that she was the only explanation for the mysteriously duplicated panther and warn Jaime not to stab her.
E. Rider Ilene lie in a crumpled heap on the floor. Even though she was still unconscious she could still hear the voices of everyone in the room, yet they seemed very distant and far away.
zeesgirl Enzi looked up when Milo and Viserys entered the room. With all these swords out, she figured it would be safe to leave and transform. Four men and a dog should be able to hold off one princess and one panther. She slipped out of the room.
Milo blinked when he saw two identical panthers on the bed with his sister, but quickly realized that one of them must be Enzi. He looked back to Viserys, hoping he wouldn't decide to stab Laila then and there. "We should go," he said. He noticed the girl from earlier was now lying on the ground. What was her story? Whose side was she on? There was no time to find out.
E. Rider Ilene's eyes fluttered open and she found herself on the ground. Who were all of these people? She looked at Milo and Enzi. She recognized Viserys even though she still didn't know who he was or his name. She heard snarling, the Princess, and Jaime. She pulled herself upright and crawled to the chair where she pulled herself up and sat in it. She was so confused. Her head was spinning.
QHRider Viserys exhaled and sheathed his sword. He grabbed Terrence by his good shoulder and towed him to the now not so secret passage. "We have to go. The king isn't dead," he said.
CrazyHorseGirl1773 "Wait. What are we going to do with that?" He used his sword to gesture towards the princess. "We can't just let her wander about. I don't know about you, but I'm quite fond of my head!" QHRider Viserys paused. "Then take hers off first. Or I'll do it, if you'd rather not."
zeesgirl Milo looked between Viserys, Jaime, and Laila. "This is a big city, surrounded by a bigger forest," he said quickly. "She won't find us. Terrence, earlier you mentioned an escaped prisoner from about a year ago. Do you know where to find him? I think he can help us."
On Par Terrence looked crossly at the hooked man. "Sure, let's discuss all our plans right here in front of her royal cruelty." He watched Hook's face closely. The man was as tense as Terrence, so he added, "And no, I don't know where to find him. I lied. There is no underground force." He turned so his back was to the princess and winked at Hook, hoping the man would catch the subterfuge and not Terrence's head on his blade.
He looked at Jaime, who had already unsheathed his sword. "Laila will be under lock and key after the attempt on Cellach's life is found out. He's no idiot, and he knows who would be most likely to initiate an assasination."
He turned to Viserys. "Can you find me another shirt?"
Barn-Bum Laila smiled cooly. "Ok got it theres a underground force, I guess I'll kill them too! Thanks Terrence!" She said smiling and tilting her head.
On Par Terrence wanted to jump across the room and strangle the smug girl. Instead he returned her smile. "I just hope you aren't too busy explaining to your father how his would-be assassin got past the guards. I also hope he doesn't ask about the ruined dress you're wearing, or where Maya got those nasty scratches."
Barn-Bum "Oh please, Terrence you underestimate me" She said taking off her dress and slipping into a silk robe. Maya let out one last growl before leaping up and scaling the wall. She dissapeared when she landed on the rafters. Her long black tail went out of view.
zeesgirl Milo scowled. He hadn't mentioned the important part of the plan-- the supposed underground rebellion. But Terrence had taken care of that, even if he'd attempted to do so in a way that would not alert the princess. "At this point, I don't have a plan," he said. "I'm finding Enzi and getting out of here. Best of luck with this mess." He whistled to Duff and made his way for the door. He felt bad abandoning his new acquaintances to deal with his sister, but he had not come here to get tangled in the deadly politics surrounding the throne. He only wanted answers, and they weren't here.
On Par Terrence followed Milo's lead and bailed out the window, where Puck was waiting on the ledge. The fox wrapped around Terrence's neck while the boy scaled down the wall on the forest side of the castle, bypassing the city altogether. He wasn't sure where Hook and Viserys would end up, but he had no doubt he could find them again if necessary. Jaime, on the other hand, wouldn't have anywhere to go. Terrence decided to keep an eye in the city gates, invade the watchman decided to flee the town.
E. Rider Ilene just sat there in the chair. Watching. She was so confused and she was trying her hardest to understand what was going on. Laela was obviously the enemy....and something about the King being dead? She wished someone would explain it to her. She wished she could lie down. Sitting up was making her dizzy again. But she would NOT fall out again.
QHRider Viserys closed his eyes and shook his head. They should have killed Laila when they had the chance. Now it was too late. He pulled the door to the passage out open and looked from Jaime to Ilene. "Well? You coming?"
Barn-Bum "If it isn't to much of a bother I want Ilene to stay with me" Laila said. "Don't worry I will keep her alive, she works for me after all"
On Par Terrence gritted his teeth. This wasn't the first time he'd climbed down this side of the castle, but he'd never done it with a fox around his neck or with a knife wound in his shoulder. He began singing softly to take his mind off the pain. It was the same tune he'd sang to the tangled panther earlier that evening.
QHRider "I wasn't asking you," Viserys said.
Barn-Bum Laila shurgged. "Well then lets let Ilene decided, I do hope she is a smart girl"

(pg 200) QH Viserys sighed as Terrence climbed up into a window. But he turned to the others. "My friends, on behalf of myself and my house, the hospitality of Dragonbone is yours." He smiled, tightly, and added, "Though it's not much, at the moment." Behind him, a voice half-remembered called, "Who goes there?" Viserys swung around, staring at the man who'd appeared. He was tall and very, very thin, with long white hair. Viserys stared at him. "Rhaegar?" CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime whipped around at the familiar iron tones echoing through the courtyard. His eyes widened at the sight of the forgotten prince. He was thin, too thin, his eyes sunken in and dark from malnutrition, and his white hair brittle and unkempt. He looked more like a starving beggar than the strong, handsome prince Jaime remembered. Triple My Gold Shocked, Brynn's eyes darted back and forth between Viserys and the newcomer. "Your brother?" she asked incredulously, her eyebrows raised so high that they nearly disappeared into her hair. "Are there any other people sneaking around the island that we don't know about?" she whispered to Jaime. QHRider Viserys didn't hear Brynn. He let go of Dragon's reins again and went over to Rhaegar, expecting his brother to vanish any moment. This couldn't be real; Rhaegar was dead. He'd died a long time ago. But Rhaegar was walking towards him too, and when they reached each other Rhaegar held Viserys' head in his hands. They were bony and cold but they were there. "Viserys? I thought you were dead," Rhaegar said. Viserys shook his head and then hugged his brother around the middle, so hard they both stumbled and then sank to the floor. Viserys was crying, and so was Rhaegar. CrazyHorseGirl1773 "I don't know," Jaime replied quietly, still unable to tear his gaze from Rhaegar. "He's alive," Jaime said, as Viserys and Rhaegar sank to the ground. He turned to Brynn. "He's alive!" He repeated, grinning down at the pretty red head. He'd gone all these years thinking that this man, one of his mentors, was dead, but he'd been alive this whole time. Jaime was confused, but happy. Rhaegar had been a good man, a better man than Jaime could ever hope to be. Would he take the throne now? Jaime looked back to the two Dragonbournes holding each other. Rhaegar looked fragile and sickly, no longer the powerful man he'd been in his youth. What had happened to him? What was he doing here? Jaime had so many questions, but they would have to wait. Triple My Gold Brynn could not help but grin back at Jaime. She would bet her sense of Sian'Ror that the Circle did not know about this. E. Rider Ilene grinned. She was so happy for Viserys she could have whooped and hollered! She smiled misty eyed at the two long lost brothers. She stood alone against the wall.
Peatir who had slipped Puck a special treat earlier slipped one to Thasha too. He had a way with animals. He sat in the air grinning about the excitement. E. Rider Ilene, still leaning against the wall alone and watching the brothers played with a strand of her soft brown hair. She bit her lip as she looked around. It was gorgeous here.
Peatir walked over to the brothers, "Long lost brothers?" he laughed "This calls for a celebration!" suddenly a feast of food on a table appeared, with chairs but two which were the most beautiful were meant for the brothers. Peatir pulled a flute from his pocket and played along with music coming from nowhere. "Eat! Dance!" the Faery began playing a happy lively tune.
(pg 201) QH ooc: Peatir, you're ruining the moment! Also don't eat the faery food guys. Bad juju.
Rhaegar sat up again, holding Viserys' head in his hands. "Look at you," he said, smiling. "My little brother, all grown up." He didn't seem to notice anyone else, and Viserys didn't care to find out what the commotion was about. "Why didn't you come home?" Viserys asked. "You promised." Rhaegar looked away. "I know." He met Viserys' gaze again. "I'm sorry." Rhaegar seemed to realize that there were people other than Viserys present for the first time. He looked over at them, and eventually smiled. "If it isn't Jaime Tallhart," he said. He looked back at Viserys. "Would you help me up?" CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime's grin faltered when Rhaegar asked Viserys for help up. He was not well, if he could not stand on his own. Triple My Gold Food had suddenly appeared before them, but Brynn could tell that the two brothers probably had a lot of catching up to do, and it didn't necessarily involve feasting. She felt like an outcast here, as Ilene and Terrence had disappeared, and the others all seemed to know each other. She smiled awkwardly at Rhaegar, though in all honesty the half-starved man frightened her a bit. Nearby, Thasha had happily gobbled up the treat that Peatir had given her and was now intently watching the faery, as if to playfully leap at his floating toes at any moment. On Par Terrence was having an excellent time exploring the old castle. He had found several rooms that looked like they had been lived in, and he wondered if maybe Peatir had been living here. He was just backing out of one such room when he felt an overwhelming sense of joy and amazement coming from the floor below. Darn this emotion thing, he thought. QHRider Viserys nodded and helped Rhaegar to stand. His brother felt so light, so fragile, that Viserys was afraid he'd break. He pushed it out of his mind and let Rhaegar lean on him as they approached the rest of the group. On Par Terrence pushed through several doors and finally came upon the group. He immediately noticed an extra man that looked uncommonly like Viserys. It was obvious that Viserys knew the man from somewhere. Terrence smiled. E. Rider OOC: Ilene isnt gone, I edited the post remember?
Ilene smiled at Brynn. "I'm not really hungry, but how about a dance?" her eyes sparkled merrily. Ilene grabbed Brynn and began dancing, Ilene doing he mans part. She giggled and her long brown hair bounced as she moved to the music.
Peatir continued to play as the girls danced and the brothers caught up with eAch other. He was full of elation but he couldn't help but think of Terrence. Triple My Gold Oh yeah...oops.
Brynn was caught by surprise when Ilene grabbed her and started dancing. She had two left feet and couldn't keep a beat to save her life, so she was extremely glad that Ilene was leading. Nevertheless she couldn't help but laugh out loud. E. Rider Ilene laughed. She was a wonderful dancer. She had danced and sung all of her life and it was almost like breathing to her. The girls were A very beautiful sight to behold. Their skirts spinning, eyes sparkling, hair flying, and their faces were adorned with happiness enhancing their already beautiful features. Ilene was still laughing as she twirled Brynn. CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime's brows scrunched together at the sight of the girls dancing. They were dancing at a time like this? He shook his head. Frankly, this faery's actions were not making Jaime any less suspicious of him. Jaime looked back to Rhaegar. It was clear that the older Dragonbourne was very weak. "You should sit," Jaime said, grabbing a chair that the faery hadn't summoned and setting it down next to Rhaegar.
(pg 202) TMG As the song ended, Brynn gave Ilene a dramatic curtsy, then straightened her skirts nervously at Jaime's disapproving look. She felt like she was back at the Circle headquarters, where the Elders always looked down on her as if she was nothing more than a child traipsing about. Brother Wight was the exception; he had always treated Brynn with respect, as if she were his equal. She had been used to it before, but for some reason she couldn't deal with seeing that look in Jaime's eyes. Sighing, she slowly made her way to the table, somewhat ashamed. zeesgirl Milo kept well back from the group and watched silently with wide, dark eyes as Viserys was reunited with his brother. Both Dragonbourne princes were alive, after all. Milo's thoughts were spinning. He had returned to Courtcliff to find answers that he had hoped would help him understand what to do with himself, a wandering, crownless prince. Instead, everything he thought he knew had changed in the past couple of bizarre weeks. The whole kingdom, it seemed, would soon be changed as well.
Enzi swooped down to the castle and turned back into a human to follow the others inside. She stared curiously at the white-haired stranger embracing Viserys, at the faery, and at the two girls dancing. It took a moment to realize what was going on. This was not what she expected. She spotted Milo lurking at the edge of the room, looking unsure of himself. She left him alone to brood and instead approached Jaime, Viserys, and the one she thought was Viserys's brother. "You need food," she said. "Where can I find it?" On Par Terrence watched the reunion, pleased to see Viserys happy. Hearing Enzi's question, he remembered the lively sounds of the forest. This island may have been supposedly deserted by people, but not by animals. "I'll get some food," he said, passing Enzi on his way out. "You can come, if you like." He was curious to know her thoughts on the island, since she was a creature of magic. QHRider Rhaegar sank into the chair Jaime offered. "Thank you, Jaime." Viserys stood beside him, his smile fading. Rhaegar wasn't okay. "I thought you were dead," Viserys said again. "I thought Cellach killed you." Rhaegar shook his head. "He could have, but he let me live here instead. Exile." On Par Triple My Gold (9/9/2012)
"Do it," Cellach said after taking a sip of his drink. "Double the spies, increase the intensity of training, send out draft notices, and notify the other major cities to do the same." The king's eyes hardened. "The rule of the Dragonbourne is over for good." zeesgirl Enzi followed Terrence outside. On the hillside behind castle, she noticed an apple tree and then, looking further afield, she saw several more and realized it could be the remnants of an old orchard. (whoops channeling Prince Caspian here) She clambered up the nearest tree and plucked an armful, which she tossed down to Terrence. "These look ripe-ish." She swung down to the ground.. "I saw some deer when I was up there," she said, pointing up at the sky. "I can go catch one, but it might take a while. Normally I'd hunt as a dragon and be done in a couple minutes, but here..." she hesitated, looking around. "Here I think I prefer a wolf or a tiger." Something about this place made the thought of imitating a dragon feel wrong. E. Rider Ilene saw Jaime's look and figured it was Brynn's reason for not dancing anymore. She sighed. Maybe this wasnt the right time to dance, but what else was there to do. She smoothed her skirts and hair before walking over to Rhaegar and Viserys. She smiled and curtsied politely. "You must be the brother Viserys speaks so highly of! It's nice to finally put a face to your name. Oh, excuse my manners, I am Ilene Enrowen."
QHRider "It is a very great pleasure to meet you, my lady," Rhaegar said to Ilene. Viserys flushed and introduced everyone to Rhaegar, who nodded to everyone as they were introduced. He raised his eyebrows as Viserys introduced Milo by name, but didn't say anything. "You have quite the group with you," he commented with a smile. Triple My Gold Brynn inclined her head politely at Rhaegar as Viserys introduced them all, but remained sitting where she was. Absentmindedly, she snapped her fingers, and much to her surprise a small flicker of flame appeared on her thumb. She tried to snap her fingers again and extinguish the flame, but it remained lit. Drat. This was certainly a new problem, not being able to stop using Sian'Ror, rather than not being able to do it at all. She closed her hand in a fist and nonchalantly put her hands behind her back, hoping the others would not notice. zeesgirl Milo stiffened when Viserys introduced him to his brother. He nodded in Rhaegar's direction but said nothing. He recalled the words of Barlow of the COR, that perhaps his answer was here, on this island. Milo felt it was safe to say that he had found it, but he still did not entirely understand. He wanted to ask Rhaegar about the details of his encounter with his father, but he decided now was not the time. He muttered something about helping Terrence and Enzi find food and left the castle, Duff at his heels.
(pg 203) E. Rider Ilene trailed after Milo. She figured she ought to let the brothers catch up, and Brynn and Jaime seemed to enjoy each others company just fine without her around. "Mind if I join you?" she smiled walking beside him. She picked a leaf off of a tree as they walked underneath it. "Ah! The seasons are changing, can you tell? It's beginning to look like Autumn.." she said picking a yellow flower and twirling it between her fingers. CrazyHorseGirl1773 Jaime raised an eyebrow and smiled at Brynn. He hadn't seen what she'd done, but she looked guilty. He looked back over to Viserys and Rhaegar. "So what now?" He asked, crossing his arms. They would still need to get funds for the COR, but after that? There were two Dragonbournes now. Rhaegar, being the eldest, was legally heir to the throne. QHRider "What do mean, what now?" Viserys said. "We get the money we came for, we go back, and we put Rhaegar on the throne." It was obvious to him, the way things should be, but Rhaegar shook his head. "I can't. I'm dying, Vis," Rhaegar said, very softly. Viserys stared at him. Triple My Gold At Rhaegar's words, the flame in Brynn's hand extinguished itself almost immediately. She waited to hear what his ailment was, hoping that maybe she could do something to help. She had healed Terrence, after all. you couldn't heal Ilene, though, when she was dying, a little voice in her head whispered almost tauntingly. She shoved the thought away angrily and got out of her chair to stand near the three men. Triple My Gold "It will be seen to immediately, my lord," Dov replied, flexing a gloved hand. "I will send send messengers on the kingdom's fastest horses to deliver word to every city in the kingdom." He thought of Carnifax, his stallion, down in the stables; he had more speed and stamina than any horse the kingdom had seen in years. His face hardened with firm resolve. "And I will travel to Nyderwyn myself." Dov's job, his home, his very life was on the line, and he stood to lose everything if the Dragonbourne took the throne...he wasn't about to let this job be handled by amateurs. (Including pgs 206-210)ZeeEnzi emitted a puff of smoke in her impatience. "I just did," she said. "But I didn't. That's the problem." Uneasily, she intended to change again but remained in her dragon shape. Changing was what she did. It was the most natural thing in the world. Why wasn't it happening? "You can still clean my goat if you want," she said, trying to hide the tinge of panic she felt bubbling up inside her. "But I can't... I don't know why... I can't change back." E. Rider zeesgirl (9/13/2012) Ilene looked down. She looked up at Milo. "Alright..." she half smiled. She was slightly surprised at his gesture but put it in the back of her mind as she bent to pick one last onion. Once upright, Ilene adjusted the onions in her arms and followed Milo. "I've never tried wild onions before..are they any good?" she asked after a moment. Since she didnt have many, She grabbed some from him to lighten his load and found a place for them in her arms. "I wonder if Enzi and Terrence have had any luck finding grub!" she giggled at her use of the slang word for food. On Par Terrence's eyes widened. He'd never heard of a changling that lost the ability to change. "We need to get off this island," he said. zeesgirl Milo nodded vaguely to her question, then mumbled a thank you when she offered to carry some of the food they had found. "I'm sure they have," he said. As they started toward the castle, Duff barked once. Milo turned back and studied her. The old dog almost never barked, but now she was facing the woods on the hillside above them, her ears alert and tail raised. "What is it, old girl?" he asked her, searching the trees for evidence of the cause of the dog's distress. Duff only looked back at him and then started toward the forest. Milo glanced back over his shoulder at Ilene. "I think we should follow her," he said. zeesgirl The note of alarm in Terrence's voice only added to Enzi's uneasiness. She spun in a circle and blew a plume of flame into the air in her frustration, then sighed and curled into a ball. No wonder she'd had reservations about using this shape here. Why had she been so quick to ignore her instincts? On Par At a loss, Terrence set down his deer meat and began cleaning Enzi's goat in the same manner. QHRiderRhaegar looked at Brynn. "No," he said, simply. But he smiled and said, "Forgive me, but all the excitement has me very tired. If you'll excuse me? And if you'll help me, Viserys?" Viserys stood up and let Rhaegar lean on him as they left the others and went deeper into the castle. "How do you know we can't do anything to help you?" "I've been getting worse and worse for a very long time, Vis." Rhaegar stopped walking to cough. Viserys held onto him. When Rhaegar stopped coughing he added, "Honestly, it will be a relief." "But I don't want you to." Viserys felt five years old again, begging his brother not to go. "I know. And I'm sorry." They'd reached Rhaegar's room, and neither of them spoke until Rhaegar sat down on the bed. "I'm so sorry, Vis. But you're going to have to let me go." Viserys shook his head and put his face in Rhaegar's shoulder. "Sssh," Rhaegar said. There was a moment when they were off-blanace, and then the brothers fell back onto the bed with a soft thump. "Ow," Rhaegar said. "Sorry," Viserys said. He closed his eyes. "I can't do this alone," he said. "You're not alone, with a cavalcade like you brought." Rhaegar squeezed Viserys' shoulder. "You knew what it meant to come back. You knew what you were doing." "I did. Doesn't mean it's easy." "It never will be. But we're dragons. We do what must be done regardless." "Fire and blood," Viserys said, nodding into Rhaegar's shoulder. "Don't forget that," Rhaegar said. "And you will be a fine king." Viserys squeezed Rhaegar. "I missed you." "I missed you too." The two brothers lay in silence for a long while, until Viserys realized that the thin chest beneath his head was no longer rising and falling with each breath. "Rhaegar?" Viserys sat up. His brother's eyes were closed and there was a small smile on his face. "Rhaegar, wake up. Please." Viserys shook his brother's shoulder, but Rhaegar didn't wake. Viserys whimpered and then screamed, pain and loss and sorrow tearing from his throat in a cry that made his vocal chords ache. (I wrote you guys a novel I hope you don't mind.) E. Rider Ilene followed briskly after Milo and Duff. Her mind raced as she thought of what the dog might have seen. She caught up with Milo but kept her eyes on where the dog was going and kept her ears open for any strange noises. On Par Terrence felt it first. He fell to his knees under the force of the emotions. Then he heard it; Viserys scream echoed through the woods, and instantly Terrence knew what had happened. Still kneeling in the blood of the goat he had been cleaning, he bowed his head and let words tumble off his lips. He didn't understand what he was saying, but he knew in his heart that it was a sort of blessing. A single tear leaked from his closed eyes. His shoulders ached with the weight of Viserys' sadness and anger. (In which Terrence gives Rhaegar a fairy blessing. ) Triple My Gold The sound which echoed through the castle walls was filled with such despair and heartbreak that Brynn didn't even need to guess what had happened, or who had made the sound. She slowly slumped down to the ground, burying her face in her hands, overwhelmed with Viserys's pain. The island felt...different...somehow, more subdued and yet more hostile. (pg 207)E.Rider Ilene followed briskly after Milo and Duff. Her mind raced as she thought of what the dog might have seen. She caught up with Milo but kept her eyes on where the dog was going and kept her ears open for any strange noises. Ilene stopped at the sound of a wail like noise coming back from the direction of the castle. She gently touched Milo's arm to get his attention, "Did you hear that?" she asked looking in the direction they had came. She looked at him quizzically. "It sounded like a..like a cry..." On Par Cellach lifted a hand. "No, my friend, your expertise is needed here." Seeing the look in Dov's eye, he said, "We must find the Dragonbourne; we must prepare for war. Your skills would be wasted as a messenger." He leaned forward, intensity burning in his eyes. "Find the Dragon. To kill a snake, one needs merely cut off the head. There can be no revolution without a leader. Find him." (Sorry, I keep forgetting about poor Cellach....) (Also, Viserys' scream. "That, my friend, is the sound of someone in absolute suffering. I made that sound when the six-fingered man killed my father. The man in black makes it now." ) QHRider On Par (9/14/2012) (Also, Viserys' scream. "That, my friend, is the sound of someone in absolute suffering. I made that sound when the six-fingered man killed my father. The man in black makes it now." ) (Thank you that is all I could think of when I wrote that. XD) zeesgirl (lol, there was a dog howling like you wouldn't believe this morning, so I told my cousin that it was the sound of ultimate suffering and its one true love would soon be marrying another. Later, while we were waiting at the bus stop, we heard another dog barking until it's owner yelled at it and dragged it away. We said that one was Buttercup, and the owner was Humperdinck saying "I would not say such things if I were you!") Milo heard the echoing cry and halted. For a moment, he hesitated, looking back and forth between Duff and the castle. "We should go back," he said. His frown was dark. Viserys was back at the castle, and if that sound came from him, it likely meant only one thing. QHRider Viserys choked out a sob and bent his head over Rhaegar, his whole body shaking with the force of his tears. This wasn't fair; finding out his brother, his hero, was still alive only to lose him again minutes later. It would have been easier if Rhaegar had died years ago. Then he wouldn't have to deal with losing him all over again. Triple My Gold"And what should I do with the brat once I find him, my lord?" Dov asked, twisting his mustache with his fingers. E. Rider Ilene looked back at Duff but turned back going as fast as she could back towards the castle. Once they were there Ilene Followed the crying sound to the room where Viserys was. She stood in the door way, her mouth open and breathing heavily. She looked from Viserys to Rhaegar. Tears fell down her cheeks as she realized what had happened. "Oh, Viserys!" she ran over to him and knelt beside him and let out a whimper, "Oh, Viserys! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry!" she put her arms around his shoulders in a hug and let him weep. She wished there was somehing she could say or do to lessen the pain she knew Viserys was feeling. But there was nothing she could say or do to make him feel better. When she had lost her brothers and fathers she had sang comforting songs to herself, but she wasn't sure that's what Viserys wanted at the moment. She let to of Viserys and stood as she gently covered the mans face with a blanket she knelt once again and prayed. Not for Rhaegar for he was gone, but for Viserys who was the one suffering now. When she was done she looked at Viserys, "I know that..there's nothing I can say..or do..but if there's anything...I'm here.." she rose and walked silently out of the room. Viserys needed to be alone. On Par Cellach adjusted some papers on his desk. "We will cut of the snake's head," he said simply, not looking up. "Bring me a report in six hours. Dismissed." He was feeling much better about this. * Terrence bundled up all the meat in the deer hide and stood. "We should go," he said tiredly. "The man in the castle has died, and we should get back to the mainland." He looked over Enzi's new form. "Can you carry this?" He was exhausted from the force of the Dragonbourne's emotions. zeesgirl Enzi, too, had heard Viserys's scream, and she had guessed at its cause. She nodded at Terrence, picked up all of their game in her jaws, and took off. She flapped laboriously to gain some altitude and then coasted over the trees back to the castle. Milo reached the castle a few steps ahead of Ilene but halted at the doorway when he saw Viserys weeping next to the body of his brother. Milo didn't know what to do or say, and he stepped aside when Ilene brushed past him to get to Viserys's side. As she delicately covered Rhaegar's empty face and offered condolences to Viserys, Milo stood at the edge of the room with his head bowed in a moment of respect for Rhaegar, although he did not know him. Milo looked up and saw Viserys's body trembling under the weight of his sorrow. He knew there was nothing the Dragonbourne prince would want to hear from him, so he ducked out of the room. In the hall, he leaned against the wall and slid down into a sitting position, with his arms around his knees. E. Rider Ilene sat beside Milo. Her eyes were red from weeping. ”Oh, Milo, its just terrible! I know exactly how Viserys feels. I went through the same thing when my brothers died...." she paused for a moment. "Its a terrible awful feeling, Milo, that makes you want to die...” Ilene stared at the opposite wall. She looked down, ”I wish Viserys didnt have to suffer through this...no one deserves to feel that way. Oh! Why did Rhaegar have to die?” A tear slipped from her eye. She wiped it and bit her lip. After a short moment she turned to Milo, ”And I wish I could make things all better..” She looked down and swallowed. "But I cant. I cant!” her eyes were tired of holding back tears, so they fell softly down her cheeks now. She felt so helpless. *Ilene doesn't like others to feel pain XD (pg 208)Zee Milo felt a hollow ache in his chest for Viserys's pain, which Ilene's tears intensified. He thought he should put an arm around her shoulders or something, but she had sat to his right and he didn't want to inadvertently scratch her with his hook. Instead, he sat silently, his expression stony. His strength was in planning and in action, not in words or people. There was nothing he could do to help, and he was powerless even to offer a sign to Viserys and Ilene that his heart broke for them. On Par After Enzi took off, Terrence buried the organs and remains of the two animals, then stumbled toward the castle. He found a small brook and splashed his hands and arms clean. He splashed some water onto his face as well, which refreshed him briefly. He didn't understand why Viserys' emotions had exhausted him. It must be something about this blasted island, he thought. QHRider Viserys had barely registered Ilene's presence. His grief was too big, too raw, to recognize anything else until all his tears were gone. Then he just knelt over his brother, feeling oddly hollow. What now? What was left? He closed his eyes and started to sing, softly at first, his voice growing louder. It was a song he'd only heard three times in his life, only sang twice before: the first time they'd thought Rhaegar died, after hearing of his father's death, and finally, after his mother's. "Troubled spirits on my chest, where they laid to rest. The birds all left my tall friend, as your body hit the sand..." (ooc: This always sounded like a funeral/mourning song, so, uh, I'm using it as one. I don't imagine Viserys sings very well though. D:) On Par Terrence leaned against a tree to catch his breath. When he looked up, there was a young man not far away. "This island is supposed to be deserted, you know," he said, not moving from the tree. The man chuckled. "Deserted by humans, Terrence. Not to those who are fae." His blue eyes grew sad. "This is not our home, but we kept a presence here, to keep Rheagar alive until..." He didn't finish. He lifted his eyes and looked at Terrence. "If only he had been part faery. We could have taken him away from here. He was a good man." Terrence frowned. He didn't understand what this had to do with him. "Why are you here?" he asked. "Right now?" The young man looked surprised. "For you, of course. We wanted to see how you were doing." Seeing Terrence's confused face, he added softly, "The faeries never forget their own." Terrence looked up sharply. He had thought that himself, soon after meeting Peatir. "What do you mean?" "I mean you, Terrence," the man replied, his eyes laughing. "You're one of us, you know. There's so much to tell you. But in time; not now." Terrence frowned and took a step toward the stranger. His foot snagged on a tree root and he fell forward. He blacked out before he even hit the ground. (Doop-de-doop-de novel!) E. Rider Ilene's tears dried up after a moment. She turned to Milo, "What now?" she asked. What were they going to do now that Rhaegar was dead? Viserys was the only remaining Dragonbourne, the only heir to the throne. She heard Viserys singing softly. She could hear the sadness and pain in his voice with every word he sung. She felt so sorry for him, but all of this made her flashback to when her loved ones had died, only it had been two brothers, not just one. zeesgirl Milo shrugged at Ilene's question. Who the hell knows, he thought. Then he inwardly scolded himself for falling victim to his own frustration. He needed to do something, and there were still things that needed to be done, regardless of Rhaegar's death and whatever the future held. "Now we keep going," he said aloud, his voice gruff. He got to his feet. "We follow through with the plan. I'll start with finding Enzi and Terrence and getting us all fed. Then tomorrow, we will find whatever treasure is here and get it back to the mainland. We can't stop because Viserys's brother died. This hasn't changed anything." He knew he came across as cold and unmoved by the tragedy that had just occurred, but sympathy would be no help to them. Rhaegar had not been a part of their plans, so his death should not delay their action. E. Rider Ilene stood up and smoothed her skirts. "Well, I'll get a fire started for cooking. Do you mind helping me gather fire wood?" she asked. She needed to get outside. Fresh air was much needed. There was a pressing feeling of sadness in the castle. Ilene didn't like it at all. zeesgirl (Where are Jaime, Brynn, and Ashleigh again? I've lost track of them. I was thinking perhaps someone, anyone, might want to get on Milo's case for acting like an insensitive jerk-face, but there's time for that later if not.) Enzi landed at the castle and deposited the meat on the ground. She tried again to return to her human form, but she still seemed trapped as a dragon. Frustrated, she took off again and flew out over the sea, thinking that maybe away from the island, she would regain her capacity to change. Her attempts to transform into a seagull failed. She trumpeted her frustration at the dark waves, spraying them with fire from her jaws, but all she achieved was a cloud of steam. When she returned to the castle, she noticed Terrence lying face down on the ground. What now? She landed nearby and lumbered over to him. "Terrence?" she ventured. She slithered her long neck forward and bumped him gently with her snout. On Par Something hard bumped Terrence in the ribs. "Ow." He rolled into a sitting position. "Hey," he said, and it took a minute for him to remember why he wasn't afraid of this dragon. Then everything came flooding back into his memory. He whirled his head from side to side, looking for a sign that his recent encounter had been real, and not a hallucination brought on by the strange island. Triple My Gold (Brynn and Jaime are in the courtyard, Ashleigh I have no clue. Brynn is currently slumped down on the ground and I didn't know what to do with her, but now I have something for her to do, yay!) "This doesn't change anything?" Brynn hissed at Milo, staring at him sadly. "Viserys has just lost the only family had, for the second time in his life, and you think this changes nothing?" She stood from her spot on the ground and faced him, showing a striking similarity in appearance to Thasha in that moment. She was visibly trembling. "I beg to differ. Yes, we may continue, but I can tell you that nothing is going to be the same." Flames erupted from her hands, and she looked down at them, shocked, before storming out of the castle. (Pg209) ZeeMilo's dark eyes widened when Brynn addressed him furiously. "It's not... I didn't mean..." he said, taken aback. He gave up struggling for words and scowled. What, did she think that he had never experienced loss, or change? Since he had been about to leave the castle anyway, he stalked after Brynn. "What does it change, then?" he demanded. He was careful to stay out of reach of her burning hands. "Are you okay?" Enzi asked, momentarily distracted from her own dilemma. "You look like you saw a ghost." Triple My GoldBrynn was mildly surprised that Milo had followed her, but she stopped walking and faced him. "I...I don't know exactly," she admitted, shoulders slumping as if defeated. "I can just tell...things are going to be more difficult. Take this island, for instance," she said, gesturing around them with a flaming hand. "It feels different, and has from the very instant that Rhaegar passed on. It doesn't feel as friendly or welcoming." She sighed, looking down at her hands and feebly trying to extinguish them. "I'm sorry for lashing out at you, Milo," she said softly, looking at him with her amber eyes. E. Rider Ilene stared after Brynn and Milo. She wanted to cry again. Everyone was angry or sad. She walked as quickly as she could out of the castle till she was almost running. She wandered back into the forest. She walked along the trail she and Milo had taken only moments ago. She walked until she came to a creek much like the one they had all swam in. She slipped off her shoes and threw all of her clothes onto a branch. She went into the water, letting it's coolness rush over her body. She went under water for a moment and came up feeling quite refreshed. QHRider When the song was over Viserys leaned down, moving the blanket, and kissed Rhaegar's forehead. "I'm sorry," he said. Very gently, he removed Rhaegar's gauntlets. It was an old custom--someone close to a fallen warrior would wear their gauntlets after, in remembrance. Rhaegar's were scalemail, each scale enameled black. Viserys fastened them on his arms and looked back down at Rhaegar. "I'll make you proud. I promise." He stood up and left the room. No one seemed to be around, and given how numb he felt at the moment, Viserys thought he preferred that. On Par zeesgirl (9/15/2012) "Are you okay?" Enzi asked, momentarily distracted from her own dilemma. "You look like you saw a ghost." Terrenced turned back to Enzi. "I, I think I did." He quickly summed up his experience, but left out the part about the faeries keeping Rhaegar alive. "Now, though," he said quietly, "I don't know if it was real or not." He looked into Enzi's large eyes, wishing she could give him answers. (I feel like Terrence is too open to keep secrets. ) CrazyHorseGirl1773 (Yikes, sorry I've been gone so long guys. It's a crazy horse show weekend. This might be a little funky, because I'm really tired, but I don't want to get too far behind.) Jaime leaned against the wall of the courtyard, too stunned to pay much attention to the people around him. He put his face in his hands and slowly slid down the wall until he was sitting on the ground. He couldn't believe that Rhaegar was actually gone. He'd known it was inevitable, but it had never felt real. Now that Rhaegar was gone, there was only one Dragonbourne left. Only one of one of the most ancient houses. The rest were dead, one by Jaime's own hands. He lifted his head up and stared down at his callused palms, the ones that had gripped his sword while he drove it through the Mad King's back. He had played a role in wiping out the Dragonbournes, leaving just one alone. Rhaegar hadn't known, and Jaime's throat closed up at the idea of the dead prince ever finding out. He clenched his hands together into fists. He would never be able to make what he'd done right, but he would do what he could to protect that last Dragonbourne for Rhaegar. Jaime would see Viserys safely on the throne, even if it killed him in the process. E. Rider After a while Ilene dressed and returned to the castle. She found Jaime looking quite depressed. "Jaime?" she said walking up to him. "You look terrible..please rest." she put her hand on his shoulder, "Please, I'll wake you for dinner." she looked at him closely. "I know this is hard for you, Jaime. It's hard for everyone. Im so sorry...oh if I could fix things I would..." she said letting her hand drop to her side as her eyes got misty. She bit her lip and looked at Jaime with her brown eyes. CrazyHorseGirl1773 "No," Jaime said sharply. He didn't want to rest. The thought of sleeping right now just felt wrong. zeesgirl Enzi cocked her head as she listened to his odd recollection. "It could have been, I suppose," she said. "Faeries have done stranger things." She looked around. "He seems to be gone now, though." TMGBrynn was mildly surprised that Milo had followed her, but she stopped walking and faced him. ZeeMilo sighed. "Maybe you're right," he said after a moment. It was unclear even to himself whether he was referring to Brynn's prediction of difficulty in the future or her outburst against his insensitivity. "But whatever else happens, we can start with dinner." He looked from Brynn's hazel eyes down to her burning hands. "You could help by making a fire," he said wryly. Without waiting for an answer, he continued out of the castle and found Terrence talking with Enzi, who for some reason was still a great, gray dragon. E. Rider Ilene glared at Jaime, "Yes, Rhaegar is dead, Jaime. But I don't think he'd want you sitting around thinking about! Sure, it's okay to mourn but don't forget about taking care of yourself! You have to go on living. You can't just break down. I know it's hard and I'm trying to understand but you can't neglect yourself..." Ilene said a little harsher than she wanted. She looked down, suddenly feeling guilty "I'm sorry, Jaime..." (pg 210)Par Terrence nodded. "Yes." He sat quietly with the dragon for a few minutes, until Milo came upon them. "How's Viserys?" Terrence could still feel Viserys, but it was no longer a sharp, crippling pain. QHRider The castle's great hall was inside the massive carving of a dragon, so huge that one hundred people could fit comfortably within its massive belly. Viserys stepped into the giant dragon's mouth and walked down its gullet until he came out into the large, silent room. The thick layer of dust muffled his footsteps as the crossed to the other end, where the ornately carved throne sat. Behind it was the huge portrait of his family, the way he remembered them: His father, tall and strong; Rhaegar, young and handsome; his mother, gentle and kind. Viserys studied the painting for a moment before carefully removing it. Behind it was a hole in the wall. Part of it followed the curve of the dragon's tail upward, but another part slopped down and spiraled beneath the hall, to the hidden treasury. Viserys followed that one down into the dungeon. zeesgirl (^Cool! Reminds me of Aladdin, when he has to descend into the mouth of the tiger thing to get the lamp.) Milo thought of how to describe to Terrence the grief he had seen on Viserys's face, but it was impossible. "Not well," he answered quietly, his expression grave. He tried to push Viserys and his suffering to the back of his mind and focus on what needed to be done. He spotted the game that they had brought back. "Help me get firewood, will you?" he said, starting toward the woods. Enzi blocked his path with her spiked tail. "I, um, have a bit of a problem," she said, twisting her neck around to look at him. Milo raised his eyebrows, but waited silently for her to explain. "I changed into a dragon and got stuck," she said. On Par Terrence was feeling refreshed and slightly eurphoric, so he left Milo to worry about Enzi's problem and gathered some sticks. He was careful to stay within sight of the duo. The island was making him nervous. He wondered if the faeries were responsible for the energy of the island, and if they would abandon the island when the last Dragonbourne left. Triple My Gold Starting a fire? Brynn thought. She already was the fire. Might as well roast the meat over her hands, seeing as she couldn't get the flames to stop. "Hey Terrence," Brynn called, having spotted him a few feet away. "Could you bring those sticks over here? I was going to do it myself, but..." She smiled sheepishly and held out her hands for him to see, crackling and glowing with orange tongues of flame. On Par Terrence chuckled at Brynn's predicament. "Sure thing," he said, piling the sticks in an area near the old E. She looked down, suddenly feeling guilty "I'm sorry, Jaime..." QHRider It was dark in the tunnel down, but Viserys had found a torch before descending. And when he came to the bottom, it lit up an area several yards wide that glowed softly from the gold. Viserys walked through, trying to decide what would be easiest to take. There was gold, in coins, in bricks, in nuggets; gemstones of all colors and sizes, some carefully cut and polished, others still raw. There was jewelry, paintings, and books. As he made a mental list of what to pack later, something caught Viserys' eye. I did not shine. The object, about two feet long and oblong in shape, was matte black, shot through here and there with blood red flecks, which were as against sparkling in the light as the rest of the object. Viserys stared at it. With his free hand he picked the object up. It was heavier than it looked, and cold. But when he moved it closer to the fire it pulsated burning hot. Viserys smiled. He'd found a dragon egg.
